Chivalry…

Texts, Tweet, Private Messages, Instagram Likes, Tinder Swipes, Emoji’s and Snapchat… This is where chivalry lies today. I can argue in circles around myself about whether this is good or bad but I’m gonna leave that up to you. I will however attempt to lay it out for you to make the best most logical decision for yourself.

Back in the day man “courted” women by taking them to a show or or a bite to eat. Men would show up at her work place “uninvited” with gifts or flowers, he might stop by her stoop where her lady friends were hanging out after school or work. He might write her a poem or sing her a song, do a little dance or even make her a meal. Women would laugh and giggle, play coy and taunt, her friends were tease and whisper but everyone would be earnest and yes he was trying to date, sleep with and become romantic but he was allowed to be a man and she was pure enough to be a women. Those were the days… Or were they?

Today (in modern language) (See Key located at the bottom for words, phrases and acronyms unknown) Someone posts a W.O.D. selfie on IG and it is screen shotted by a THOT/Thirsty Dude, shared with a snapchat story then stalked on Facebook only to be followed on Twitter and swiped through on Tinder looking for a New Bae to pop up… Did you get all of that. I can do it again if you need me too. Keep Up! This applies to both men and women alike not just one side here. I place no blame on either side. I’m merely laying it all out here. Shall we go on?

Let’s….

We live in a “point the finger” society where its totally appropriate and necessary to blame and point the finger at everything and everyone accept ourselves (mirror effect). How we got there is irrelevant to this post and to be discussed in a later blog. We do not look in the mirror when she doesn’t respond or if he doesn’t call you back… We just blame that person for being “just like everyone else”. Now what about the part where you are acting like everyone else? Maybe? No? Just a little?

I’m not blaming her and I’m not blaming him so if there’s no blame then what? What’s the answer? Well here’s what I think it is? Technology while it obviously has its advantages also opens up the world making it largely smaller simultaneously. Men don’t have to go looking for a woman when he can find one Tinder and women don’t have to get to know just one man when she can get to know 7 off of her IG account. Men don’t have to ask what you’re about because your universe is online?! Women don’t need to keep you interested because she’s too busy taking selfies in her boy shorts.

Accessibility… everyone is so DAMN Accessible 24/7, smart phones and social media has lifted any privacy or culture of “time and place”. Now men expect women to respond immediately and women expect men to plan regularly because we have calendars in our phones and “read receipts” on our texts. We have geolocation apps and check-in options. We have snapchats stories, selfies, shared links, comments on status’, wifi, and hotspots galore and AHHHHHHHHH. Lol. It’s amazingly nightmarish. And inappropriately normal in 2014.

Women don’t cook, Men still don’t listen, Women do crossfit and Men cry and shape their eyebrows, Women make more money and Men take Dick-Pics and Selfies AND POST ONLINE! Come On?! Am I the only one who sees this terrible roller coaster of potential gender crisis? lol. Honestly it doesn’t even bother me that much but you know who it does bother? YOU. You’re single and can’t figure out why? Where are all the good men, how come all girls can do in public is post pics and like other people IG photos? How come the only conversation ever had is about IG, Facebook, Tinder, Twitter, Snapchat and the damn Kardashians. Who cares? Really Who cares!

Why are you home on a Friday night with no plans? Why didn’t he call you back? How come she hasn’t check my message and replied? How come she won’t drive here? Why can’t he make a plan? We are all too accessible. No “Me” time anymore woman who say they are working on themselves are just interested in someone else dude take the hint. Or how bout women stop hinting and just say your not interested. OMG? Did I just figure it out? Lol. #RocketScience

When a girl says “I can’t wait to go home and go to sleep” that should mean… She can’t wait to go home and go to sleep, but to some women it could mean “I have no plans and open to make one with you should you choose to ask me”… Yeah good luck with one ladies, let me know how that works out for ya? And fellas please please stop  taking nude selfies, girls are showing everyone just like you do when you receive one from a girl. #MindBlown #WhoWouldaThought

What do you think it is? What do you think makes Dating so Damn Difficult today? Where is chivalry? Dead? Hiding?

I just think it needs to be re-defined and re-introduced. Let’s work on that together and see if we can’t get two people to meet, get to know one another, fall involve and live happily ever after… What Say YOU?

If you need to find me please google me and send me an email off of my website it will notify my iPhone and I can respond through text while updating my twitter and posting selfies on IG after I took random pics and videos for my snapchat story hoping that one girl will send me a direct message and like my Klass Universal Page on Facebook. #LMFAO

Branding – Some basics

Branding is so very important and, not just in business, but in life in general with social media being such a force in how we communicate with each other. Each one of these sites is showcasing your “brand” all over the World Wide Web.

Confession: every time I make a new friend on FB or a new Twitter follower, I immediately creep all over their pages, walls, photos and anything else I can. And most times I don’t have to ask any questions because their entire life, interests, hobbies, thoughts, beliefs and profession are online.

This should be extremely alarming to you if you are not thinking about your online profile…

Things to consider when posting online:
•It doesn’t come down on its own, whatever you post is online for about as long as the site is alive, and long after you have forgotten you posted it.
• World Wide Web: Not a secret club house, if you put it online it’s for the world. Please do not convince yourself that anyone can’t find it.
• Private Social Media Life: This is simple, it doesn’t exist. A private social media platform is an Oxymoron. Unless you have read all the terms and agreements before checking that box then how can you argue?
• Storefront: Is what your posting as interesting to the world as it is to you? Didn’t think so. An extra thought before posting historically never hurt anyone, EVER!

These are just a few of things to ponder regarding social media. There are many ways to create a brand and maintain it. Do you have to be on the cover of a magazine or play professional sports, win an academy award? Well yes, but that’s not the point.

Branding isn’t what you have done necessarily and it doesn’t have to be a specific goal either. You wanna have a direction, a goal, an image. There should be something to where you wanna get to and then you need to create the Brand to help get you there. More importantly, once you have acquired this you must continue to evolve your brand as your continue to grow.

Never forget that it’s much easier to fall off the Pedestal then it is to climb it.

I’ll leave you with this Quote, that I didn’t create…

~Remember and be nice to all the people you meet on your way up, because those will be the same people you see on the way down.~

Make $, Spend $

“I want to live my youth not experience my age.”…

That came to me one day while debating with another about dollar bills and what to do with them, how to save it, make it, blah blah blah. I realize the importance of rainy days and/or emergencies. I know that saving money is one key to a financial security as well as ones future. We are told to manage dollars and live on a budget. Not to live beyond our means; the list continues and as we grow older we only hear more sophisticated versions of “Save Money”.

If I would like to retire young enough to enjoy some fruits of my labor then saving money is a necessity.

What if I’m to be a family man? Then my family is a wonderful reason to save. Save Save Save! A lesson they teach early in school and continue to encourage this value as life continues.

What if I wanted to just be a spend thrift and die broke?

What “They” don’t teach is how to do both, enjoy the money we’re earning now and be prepared for the future.

Let’s remember how we came into this world and how we are leaving it. Most likely it will be in a similar fashion: Broke, little to no clothing and hungry. What I mean by this is that you can’t take all that money you save with you after this life and since we haven’t figured out the exact science to say when most of us are going to die, why am I supposed to save ALL THIS MONEY?

I personally don’t want to visit Aruba and/or Hawaii in my 60’s or 70’s when I have an inhaler and a bum knee, you might but, not me. I wanna run on an Aruban beach NOW and possibly with my walker when I’m 90. Lol. I want to wear nice suits that fall on my shoulders perfectly, I would love to see something magical early in life but then be able to revisit it later on in case I realize I wasn’t mature enough to appreciate it the first time. I want to work hard and thus play harder and when my time comes I won’t feel like I was too busy saving my money to enjoy some of the freedoms and luxuries it can provide.

Don’t be fooled.. I do get it!

The average adult, with the aid of medical and technological advancements, can now live longer and may need more money saved to sustain. A soon to be grandmother is expecting her first granchild or an additional family member then I see the need to be watchful of saving. If one parent is serving the country in a military capacity then I understand that. I could go on about why living longer could/would be completely justified in needing to save more.

For me… I want to live long enough to say that I have “lived”. Simple. We have all heard phrases like “live life to the fullest” or “live like there’s no tomorrow” however I do not believe we take that to its full potential. I want to be mindful of doing that.

I live life every single day, take chances, meet new people, welcome good change while learning from poor change. I appreciate the awards and apologize for my shortcomings (well some of them) lol. I live! I push myself and refuse to be stationary by society’s expectations or demands. I set my own. So how does this relate to the title of this blog?

As a child in a single household we survived by the strongest most intuitive bold woman I will ever know: my mother. Welfare, section 8, food stamps all were part of my adolescent stages. While one half of my creation did exactly what was asked/required of her she could not protect me from the horrible humiliation I felt due to our financial situation. No one could have, it was a necessary experience I was to live and learn from. And believe me I learned…

I have successfully completed high school w 4 years perfect attendance, double majored during my undergraduate career, shared 7 years of my life working for the Norfolk County D.A.’s office while building a high end sophisticated entertainment company. Let me assure you I’m just getting started and I plan on going until I can’t go anymore.

Work hard, play hard, live bold, challenge conformity, dare to be different, question authority and believe in your own ability to #MakeMoves

See you all next time!

Roll ‘Em

The thing that I feel the most lucky and thankful for is my family and friends. But, a close second is that I get to wake up and love every second of what I do for work every day!

It’s easy to follow society’s plan, It goes something like this..

  1. Schooling
  2. Secondary Schooling
  3. Job/Career
  4. Find a Mate/Partner
  5. Co-Habitate
  6. Pets
  7. Pro-Create
  8. Save money
  9. Raise Family
  10. Retire
  11. Eventually punch the ticket..

While all of that sounds great it also sound a little cookie cutter and boring to the opportunistic mind of me and others like me. There are so many things each person should attempt to experience but in order to experience different is to explore different, think different, believe different and want different.

I believe I am different and therefore I behave differently resulting in a different sort of life experience for me. I am both happy and nervous by this state of being but that’s the point. Being nervous isn’t something society says is ok. We are supposed to make comfortable, calculated decisions for everything, REALLY? Nah! I say NAY!

I say make safe decisions and risky decisions combined. Put yourself in a situation to live differently than everyone else. Does that mean go out and buy a Lamborghini? Well maybe but that’s not my point. My point is to try things outside your comfort zone and you just might make your comfort zone a bit bigger.

Make a list of things you would like to try but never have and how you could try them safely. Then implement that list and try one at a time, see if anything changes?

Let me know what your list looks like!

“The only way that we can live, is if we grow. The only way that we can grow is if we change. The only way that we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. And the only way that we can become exposed is if we throw ourselves out into the open. Do it. Throw yourself.”

Happy Thanksgiving

Hey Friends, Followers, Subscribers and Family. Hope everyone is ready to eat some good food and maybe see some close ones you have been missing while Making Moves and staying busy as most of us are.

First I would like to say Thanks to My Editor and Chief (Sami P) for helping me to find my voice and share these thoughts and opinions with each of you. While we we don’t see a lot of commenting from our readers we do see a lot of traffic via texts emails and phone calls regarding the likes and thoughts of all of you and we thank you for that. It wouldn’t be possible if she didn’t take the time to perfect my thoughts, organize them and provide you all with a glimpse of what Kupah James thinks, feels and likes to share with you all. So a super big SHOUT OUT TO YOU S to the P!

Instead if I posted a blog about being thankful which is relatively cliche, we thought it would be better to share some very popular memes with you to then share with your loved ones on Thanksgiving! So without further (ado) below are some random memes that I like and I hope you get a kick out of them too. There is not a method to the order, rather laughs and tickles to keep you high spirited as the holidays begin.

Enjoy and please comment, repost, share, and like everywhere and anywhere! Thanks 4
giving me your time each and every week.

6 Rules to Live Life

This isn’t really a movie review, but you can probably see I got something out of it and I think you should definitely check it out. It was one of those things.. I’m watching it and then I heard a line, cleaned my ear out and was like, “say what?!”

That sh*t was real!

The movie is People Like Us starring Chris Pine, Michelle Pfeiffer, Olivia Wilde, Elizabeth Banks and Jon Favreau. The cast should be enough for you all to watch it 😉 Real quick, the movie is about Chris Pine’s return home after his father dies and he finds out about a sister he never knew he had. Craziness ensues.

Seriously though: great talent, deep film, legit life lessons.

The following are 6 quotes from the movie that made an impact on me and I hope they will for all of you. I don’t want to add my own comments because I think they speak loudly on their own. Instead, I hope it sparks a discussion between us and between you and whoever friend/coworker/spouse, etc.

1) If you like something because you think other people will, it’s a sure bet that nobody will.

2) Most doors in the world are closed so if you find one that you want to get into, you sure as hell better have an interesting knock.

3) Everything that you think is important isn’t, and everything that you think isn’t important, is.

4) Don’t shit where you eat.

5) Lean into it, outcome doesn’t matter, be there for it.

6) Never sleep with someone who has more problems than you.

10 New Things about IOS 7

For all you fellow Apple/iPhone users out there – take notice!

1.) EMAIL: you can still swipe, but only from Right to Left, no more going both ways. This is a pain if you have become accustomed to swiping the other way (as myself and my sister have.)

2.) SPOTLIGHT is now easier to access. I use this feature all the time – so happy to see it more accessible to me when I’m searching through my phone. How to: just pull down from the home screen about an inch and don’t pull from the top or else you will activate notifications
3.) SHORT NAMES utilizes the nickname feature a little better by placing the short name above any conversation or email correspondences you have. I hate it and turned the feature off but it’s not a bad idea.
4. CALLING someone from a text is a pain now. Yes they placed the contact info at the top at all times but u have to touch the phone 3x to make a phone call vs before when u just scrolled to the top and touched 1x or 2x. #SpoiledProblems
5. You can now see the countdown when you SNOOZE from the lock screen. Way Cool!
6. SLOW MOTION is probably the coolest feature ever! If you haven’t used it then that’s why you’re doubting it.
7. FLASHLIGHT is native on the phone and there’s no need for an app. THANK YOU.
8. SAFARI’S SEARCH BAR is now universally the google search bar as well. Nice move. Meaning you can enter a web address and search a actor/actress in the same space.
9. APPS now allows u to have multiple pages within a category. Not my favorite feature cuz it’s one extra step to get an app opened.
10. MESSAGES no longer opens the one message hanging around in your conversations although if you read my previous blog post I leave the read receipt on for a reason. Hehe. This is a an awesome new feature!
There are a ton of new features stay tuned for part II. These are a few things I noticed playing around w the all new ios7. Do you have the 5s (Sucks)? What do you like or not like about the new phone and software?

Tips for Running Motivation

I’m often asked for workout advice. This can range from what type of workouts they should do, how to lift weights, explain Street Feet, and about running. I have a love/hate relationship with running; there are many amazing benefits to CARDIO and running is an easy and effective cardio routine. But, sometimes getting out the door to run can be… Ehhh… not appealing.

So, I thought I would include some tips for running motivation, to get you out the door and #MakingFitnessFun! Some of these are my recommendations and some are what I’ve found to be a general consensus of my closest peeps.

  1. A DOPE Playlist – DUH! This one is super easy to overcome because you can just download the latest Street Feet mix 😉 #ShamelessPlug, #It’sFree. Here’s a link to my SoundCloud mixes
  2. Running with someone. Running with a friend is a great way of getting out the door to run. You’re more likely to show up if you have plans with someone, you can catch up with a friend, focus on conversation rather than making that next mile! And, if you don’t have a friend to run with, your dog can be a great running partner! Try to find someone who either keeps up or slows down. There’s nothing worse then running with someone on another level can completely defeat the purpose. Agree to a pace and distance ahead of time incase you get ahead or fall behind you know where a meeting place is.
  3. Use a training plan. There are so many training plans out there, a handful of my friends say they’ve had great success with Hal Higdon running plans. They’re structured for beginners, intermediate runners and more advanced. This helps you set goals and make appointments with yourself to stay accountable and make sure you fit it in to a busy schedule!
  4. Download some apps! There are now so many fitness related apps, some great ones for running include:
    1.  Map My Run, which will provide running routes for you nearby to eliminate that pressure, and you can share some great ones that you enjoy as well.
    2. RunKeeper. This app is awesome if you don’t have a running watch and want details about your run or are on a specific training plan. It tracks your distance, pace, time and heart rate. It measures your performance over time and gives you updates. Provides training plans for you! And, even syncs to your music.
    3. Nike + GPS. GPS, running watch all in one, another great app that syncs to your iPod and tracks your workouts.
    4. Couch to 5k. This app is modeled after the pretty well known Couch to 5k training plan that really outlines everything for you through your phone.
  5. Enter a race – That’s motivation for ya – spending money on a race gives you that financial incentive and a deadline!
  6. Setting your workout clothes out beforehand. This is a big one in my opinion, and is great for WORKOUT motivation, not specific to running. Especially if you exercise in the morning. When you don’t want to get out of bed, make it as easy on yourself as possible. Set everything you’ll need out the night before so you just roll out of bed and can go. You’ll also make sure you don’t forget anything. Put your socks in your shoes, set out your outfit, put your iPod and running watch (if you use these items) and any fuel (for long runs) with it! If you don’t want to carry a fanny pack while you run FINE. just bring ID and some cash and if possible pass by a convenient store during your run and hydrate there. Less to carry and squeeze a little break into your run.
  7. Think about how great it will feel when it’s over. Runner’s High is a real thing – no matter how short of a run, your endorphins get moving and you feel amazing. You’ll always feel accomplished once you’ve hit the pavement!

What did I miss? Obviously there are a bunch of different types of motivators– what are some of your favorites?

Top Ten Ways to Refocus your Workout for Fall

As I mentioned in last weeks’ post Fall is the perfect time to refocus your fitness routine; start a new one or recharge an old one! Here are some of my favorite ways to get out of a slump or kick it up a notch!

1. Increase cardio as a slower season approaches! This is really important!! In the Summer you’re always gaining some extra physical activity by walking outside, swimming and staying out and about longer with the sun. Once Fall and Winter approach it gets colder and darker and we all tend to stay indoors, do less and watch “just one more TV show” than usual. SO, Increase that cardio and watch TV from a treadmill or elliptical – you can do it!

2. Lower your weight just a tad but increasing your reps. Maybe even add a set as well!

3. Maintain your water intake and servings of fruit.

4. It’s also a good time to change machines (if you tend to use the same one.)

5. The body needs change every 3-4 months so you can change the order of your workouts, time of your workouts or order of each exercise.

6. Try a new class. Group exercise is one of the best ways to have fun and not think about working out.

7. Create a new music playlist: music will help with motivation and light a new fire to your work outs.

8. Try to increase your time by adding even one extra set of a different type of exercise. Adding a quick Abs, Cardio, or Cross fit activity is great as the extra cherry on top. Just 10-15 extra minutes will do.

9. Bring a friend, especially for ladies who don’t want to be bothered at the gym by the creepy guys. We are less likely to approach you in groups of two or more. But there may always be THAT GUY so heads up.

10. Sign up for a race! Talk about motivation!? October is Breast Cancer awareness month and there are a variety of walks and runs throughout the month. Exercise AND raising money for charity = WIN! Here is just one race coming up in Boston!

What’s your exercise workout schedule look like? What’s your favorite routine?

New Season means NEW! So try something else, you might actually like it.
