Branding – Some basics

Branding is so very important and, not just in business, but in life in general with social media being such a force in how we communicate with each other. Each one of these sites is showcasing your “brand” all over the World Wide Web.

Confession: every time I make a new friend on FB or a new Twitter follower, I immediately creep all over their pages, walls, photos and anything else I can. And most times I don’t have to ask any questions because their entire life, interests, hobbies, thoughts, beliefs and profession are online.

This should be extremely alarming to you if you are not thinking about your online profile…

Things to consider when posting online:
•It doesn’t come down on its own, whatever you post is online for about as long as the site is alive, and long after you have forgotten you posted it.
• World Wide Web: Not a secret club house, if you put it online it’s for the world. Please do not convince yourself that anyone can’t find it.
• Private Social Media Life: This is simple, it doesn’t exist. A private social media platform is an Oxymoron. Unless you have read all the terms and agreements before checking that box then how can you argue?
• Storefront: Is what your posting as interesting to the world as it is to you? Didn’t think so. An extra thought before posting historically never hurt anyone, EVER!

These are just a few of things to ponder regarding social media. There are many ways to create a brand and maintain it. Do you have to be on the cover of a magazine or play professional sports, win an academy award? Well yes, but that’s not the point.

Branding isn’t what you have done necessarily and it doesn’t have to be a specific goal either. You wanna have a direction, a goal, an image. There should be something to where you wanna get to and then you need to create the Brand to help get you there. More importantly, once you have acquired this you must continue to evolve your brand as your continue to grow.

Never forget that it’s much easier to fall off the Pedestal then it is to climb it.

I’ll leave you with this Quote, that I didn’t create…

~Remember and be nice to all the people you meet on your way up, because those will be the same people you see on the way down.~

Halloween 2013

Happy Halloween Kids!

I’ve had two tracks of conversation with people this year: Costumes (what to wear/what not to wear/most popular/overdone) and Wanting to Look Good (hot, healthy, wish I had MadeFitnessFun the past month.)

Whether you went out last night or you’re partying this weekend hear are some of Kj’S Thoughts on Halloween:

Costumes: I know a lot of people who plan on doing the typical/boring/lame sexy cop/princess/racecar driver (really?!) thing

C’mon people let’s try for some creativity – you can be anyone you want to be! Insert last year’s blog post: HOLLAween

And, please, don’t dress as Miley. Be creative. Be classy. I’m sorry, I’m not sorry.

On Wanting to Look Good: Now this we can talk about.  50% of looking good is feeling good about yourself. So put your insecurities on hold and own it.

The other 50% is #MakingMoves on the health front.

  1. Drink lots of water. Duh. Flush out your system and de-bloat.
  2. Eat something before you go out and drink. Cut out processed sugar and salt and cut down on your carb intake for the day or day before.
  3. WORKOUT! Workout the day of and the night before you’re going out. You’ll get some quick muscle tone. It helps with the first 50% we were talking about before too.
  4. If you’re going to drink, the above will help you the next day too if you’re feeling a little hungover.
  5. Don’t bar hop. The fashionably late thing is a bad look and the city will be nightmarish (pun intended!) Go somewhere comfortable and make the best between one or two places. Enjoying yourself is healthy for the mind!

If you don’t read anything else, read this:

  1. Don’t drink & drive. Cab it. Uber it. Or, kick it old school and get a DD (Designated Driver)
  2. Don’t be lame. Have fun and do something festive. (Even if you’re just watching Halloween movies and giving out candy)
  3. READ THIS POST: Why You Shouldn’t Pick Up The Halloween Slut – I’m still crying, from laughing. It also will be featured in a book I’ll write one day, as I’m jealous I didn’t write these wise words.

Spoiler Alert from the article: “A rule of thumb: You get what you see. A generic costume gets worn by a generic girl. That’s true whether you’re looking for a girlfriend type on Halloween (bad idea) or just the Halloween hookup.”

World Series Dj

Whether you’re a die-hard or fair-weather fan, many of us cannot ignore the heightened excitement brought on by our Boston Red Sox!

It started with a call of the upmost urgency and privacy: Music Management was looking for a final Dj to play alongside the incredibly talented “NIGHTSHIFT” Band. We were still in the Tampa Bay series and the event was to only take place if we won the Pennant.

There were dueling pianists, jazz bands and another Dj for this event of a lifetime planned by Nicole Simeral of Simeral & Co. Below are snapshots of just some of what was going on this night of Oct 21, World Series Party for the Boston Red Sox!

Enjoy…

My Dj Booth for the evening stacked on top of the main stage where NightShift performed with shadow dancers on each side and a light show for a mini concert.

My Homie, and Co-Dj Hevan, having some fun with a Ted Williams Cut Out. Vintage Black & White Filter to keep it Old School.

Joes Designer jeans, Classic Cedar Boot w high collar, Boss button down, trendy vest and trademark suspenders is how I rolled to the ball game. Yes, that’s the field I’m standing on and the Green Monster in the background. #MakeMoves

Sight line down 1st base straight to home plate. This is gonna be one hell of a ride. Go Sox! #FenwayPark- So I’m starting to think this is a big deal ehh?

Ok so maybe we met some players and maybe one of them let me try on his 2004 World Series Championship Ring? MAYBE!!??

Up close and personal shot of the Dj booth. Boots off to the side for that original look.

Media Everywhere, telecast and VIPs all over the place. Top of the dug-out and peep how the Boston Red Sox looks like a Nike Check/Shwoosh! Yep! #Panoramic

Must do chillin in the Red Sox dug-out No Big Deal… #WorldSeriesBaby

Something about a pole, lots of writing on it, I’ll spare you some of its language but nonetheless, kinda cool.

NightShift rehearsing and, he won’t repeat it, but the lead female vocalist gave Hevan the chills.

This car might belong to that guy who’s name begins w BIG and rhymes w Puppi… #JusSayin

I want to thank again for allowing me to part of such a cool experience!

6 Rules to Live Life

This isn’t really a movie review, but you can probably see I got something out of it and I think you should definitely check it out. It was one of those things.. I’m watching it and then I heard a line, cleaned my ear out and was like, “say what?!”

That sh*t was real!

The movie is People Like Us starring Chris Pine, Michelle Pfeiffer, Olivia Wilde, Elizabeth Banks and Jon Favreau. The cast should be enough for you all to watch it 😉 Real quick, the movie is about Chris Pine’s return home after his father dies and he finds out about a sister he never knew he had. Craziness ensues.

Seriously though: great talent, deep film, legit life lessons.

The following are 6 quotes from the movie that made an impact on me and I hope they will for all of you. I don’t want to add my own comments because I think they speak loudly on their own. Instead, I hope it sparks a discussion between us and between you and whoever friend/coworker/spouse, etc.

1) If you like something because you think other people will, it’s a sure bet that nobody will.

2) Most doors in the world are closed so if you find one that you want to get into, you sure as hell better have an interesting knock.

3) Everything that you think is important isn’t, and everything that you think isn’t important, is.

4) Don’t shit where you eat.

5) Lean into it, outcome doesn’t matter, be there for it.

6) Never sleep with someone who has more problems than you.

Top Ten Worst Jobs In or On a Movie

Black Swan

AOL’s Boston Authentic

Some four Months ago through a dear friend of mine whom I respect tremendously for her ability to MakeMoves as a Mother, Business Woman, Sexy, Driven, Smart and a Friend. She came across an amazing opportunity for me to be apart of an new cool original campaign for AOL.

AOL was searching for Boston Authentic’s or individuals they felt were original and unique in their everyday living. Out of 60 folks all doing wonderful things I was lucky enough to gain the attention enough to own a spot of 6! A Video/Photo shoot quickly ensued and then December 3rd 2011 wild postings began popping up all over Boston, Brighton, Cambridge and surrounding towns. Pandora, Taxis, Bus Shelters, Underground T Stations and ultimately a 20’x 60′ Billboard located at 1330 Boylston St Boston Ma.

The experience has been amazing and I have received tons of positive feedback and compliments for the campaign as well as numerous leads on other opportunities. I’m completely amped about what is next but I felt that so many people have been asking “How, Who” etc. I decided to explain to those who may still be interested in my role and how it came to be. The campaign is now in its 10th week when it was only supposed to be one month! R U Kidding Me!?

Thanks for all of your support throughout this chapter in my life. Hopefully the next one will be just as exciting and I hope you stick around for the ride!

Steve Jobbs Commences…

Hey All,

Here’s a quick one which was shared with me from one of my Best Friends. It’s a great way to start off any day and believe me, it just became part of my presentation “Koreography of Life” Whether you are into technology or not, believe rumo-ville or not, stand outside of Apple Store on iPhone release day or watch 2-hr Keynotes from your desktop, iPad, iPod Touch, or iPhone; This guy has changed the way we do things. From Music to Interviews, Movies to Ringtones, Texting to Emails and Talking to Sharing; Steve Jobbs will go down in History for being one of the most monumental beings of “My Time” anyway. I’ve watched his Keynotes for the past 5 years and never heard him say anything as touching as what he says below. I hope you can take 2 minutes from your day to read this and let it digest just for a second. Swish it around and see what it does to your mindset.

I blog, tweet & Facebook because I love what I do for a living; whether I am watching a beautiful bride walk down the isle to “Canon in D”, Watch a Family up in chairs at a Mitzvah while everyone else is performing the “Hora”, or observing High School Seniors close a chapter in their lives only to begin a new one at a Prom. I work with the most talented people I can think and HELL yes I’m Biased but we all WALK THE WALK (thankfully because I do TALK) RollKall: Kupah James, Ms. Ana, Michelle D, Tarryn P, Kaz C, Anthony V, Shadi K, Kevin M and our new cast of Damien C, Lindsay S, Nikki R, Juan D, and there are more! We are dedicated and I believe I speak for all when I say we love what we do so thank all of you for giving us the platform to perform and provide amazing entertainment for parties of all shapes and sizes. If it wasn’t for many of you (especially ones reading this blog) we would not exist and I thank all of you for that.

Please enjoy the passage and take it with you today on Sept 8 2011. Its cold, rainy and dark outside. Operative word being “Outside”, Don’t ever let it be the case on the INSIDE. It Doesn’t have to be your mindset. Choose!

“Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith. I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” Steve Jobbs – Stanford University Commencement.

Can I have a smile?

So I was thinkin… (Uh-Oh)

People often say to me things like “You have too much energy and slow down, take a break or even a day off”. I hear this so much it almost becomes annoying. Key word being ALMOST…

Second, immediately following that comment is “Why are you always so happy or Don’t you ever have Bad Days?”.

I just wanted to express my thoughts about those comments. The energy that is inside of me is inexplainable, I have not yet been studied by those who contain the knowledge to tell me why I am an Off the Wall LUNATIC. So please allow this to be my warning, and disclaimer that I cannot help my energy level and no; I will not slow down or stop any time soon. Perhaps the real question you should be asking is why dont you do more with Yooooour life? Maybe that will give you a better answer and end-result.

As far my happiness? Happiness is not a pre-determined feeling that is planned out and has to be controlled by outside influences. Crazy I know huh? Happiness or the state of content is a CHOICE that one makes at the beginning of each day, remaining close to that decision allows that person to ignore drama infested gossip and life ending experiences. I choose this state of mind each and every day when I wake up and carry it with me through out. This allows me to focus on the important things that matter to me as well as those I care about. I absolutely have bad days like when my spiderman pj’s aren’t clean and I have a special somebody coming over. But I don’t let it change my universe or state of mind I just go with it and always tell myself someone has it worse than I do. Or… I just put on My Hulk or Iron Man ones (Depending on my mood)…

Back to the Happy thoughts why don’t you try it, see what happens. The worst that can happen is you smile for one extra second longer than usual… OH THE HORROR…. : P

This Note is not to anyone on my network of friends on Facebook, Twitter or who subscribe to my blog. This was just an outlet for my thoughts. Call it a public Journal… No secrets here. feel free to ignore, respond, or reject my thoughts

This is what I say to people who attempt to anger, upset or hurt me or my energy…

Anger ruins joy, steals the goodness of my mind. Forces my mouth to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, leads to a mind w/o regret. If I overcome anger I will delightfully loved by everyone…

Father’s Day Letter…

Hey Dad,

Haven’t seen you in awhile and I hope things are good with you? Me? I’ve been really busy with various things and I know you like to hear all this stuff so I’ll try to fill you in… I’m 28 now but people say I look 15 which I guess is a good thing so I’ll take it :) I have been living in the South Shore with Xavier for the past 5 years now in a complex we both are in love with. He’s good too, X just took a position as “Beverage Manager/Director” at a Fancy new spot in Boston. At first it was a little out of his comfort zone but he is proving that is capable of doing whatever he sets his mind to. No surprise to me. Whatever works right? Mom is in NH living with the G~Parents and they are all driving each other CRAZY which in turn is DRIVING ME CRAZY! Lol! She’s is doing the best I have seen in a long time, I can’t really tell you why but when you see her again i’m pretty sure she will be in a happy place. She’s hit some bumps in the road and you two not working out didn’t make the situation any easier :/ but she managed to raise two unbelievable individuals who do many a great thing each day with those around us. If it wasn’t for her; I/We wouldn’t be here today. So maybe I should be giving you props for picking the right woman?!… NAHHHHH! You’re still a bum. In your absence I have met some of the most amazing males which have helped shape me into the man I am today. D Normandin is my Big Brother from the organization I’m sure you heard of it? We are going on 19 years!!! Unreal! I’ll never forget the first time I met him and how nervous I was. Shhh don’t tell him but sometimes I still get butterflies when seeing him. Could just be the little boy in me, not sure yet TBD. Some outstanding names in the middle would be Larry Jackson, Sean Casey, Jack Kahn, Nathan Close, Raj Tulsiani… there are a few others. Then there is Kaz also known now as Dj Kaz. Many no him as my right hand man but I would say RIGHT HAND and argue that he is the most influential person in my life.  He’s helped me through some of the roughest times even when I didn’t think I would make it. We are two of a kind and have been inseparable since High School :P. He’s actually getting married this summer and I’m giving him away at the wedding; I fought his mom for the role. ANNND His fiance might not know this yet but she is getting a package deal with Kaz because where ever they go i’m living with them for the rest of my life.. Shh don’t tell her she’ll find out.

I should probably fill you in a bit about what I’ve been doing… Well I graduated Haverhill High back in 2000 and went on college at a private institute Curry. There I played Bball for 4 years started, and was given the honor of a Capt. for my Jr and Sr. years. I was able to receive two degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology which landed me a job for the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office after graduation. I  grew there as a motivational speaker and educator. Oh yea I started a business. It’s actually an umbrella corp that house a few smaller business beneath it. But I can’t give you all the details, you’ll have to wait till I see you. I will tell you that we put smiles on the face of THOUSANDS and give people a reason to be happy, dance and forget about their problems even if it is for only a few hours. You should know that the company is doing well enough for a staff and team of just under 20 people and it’s my full time gig. I couldn’t even begin to put my dreams on here but i’m sure you get the picture. Let’s put it like this. “whispering” I WANT IT ALL… Hehe. I have the best team possible and they are my family and I live for each one of them. I tell them but I don’t think they really know how important they are to me. Hopefully I am able to show them consistently so they fully understand…

DATING: UGH Next!!!

I’m taking care of the Little Sis while you’re gone and she is in the best hands. She is helping trouble youth with lacking resources (funny how that works) and while she can’t always buy fancy things, her worth is immeasurable and there is no one like her. She is my rock, my angel, my breath, my heart I love her so much and she is making us both proud I promise.

I think That is about it… Just wanted to say Happy Fathers Day and catch you up a bit. Hope this was helpful and know that I smile everyday to the people because people deserve a reason to smile but if I had my way I would trade it all in for a conversation with you. It will happen soon enough I know but not yet, I still have A Billion things to do. I don’t think I was old enough to fully understand death but at 10 years old… It would have been nice to share a beer, check out girls, go see a game, watch a movie, FIGHT, sit on a park bench and listen to you tell me all the things I never heard from a father. But the only thing I will never be able to shake is wishing you were here just for a moment to say you were proud of me. I’m gonna keep working hard till I see you again and I know you will tell me. I look forward to that day. In the mean time…. Thank you for giving me a shot in this world to make any difference even if it’s large or small.
