World Series Dj

Whether you’re a die-hard or fair-weather fan, many of us cannot ignore the heightened excitement brought on by our Boston Red Sox!

It started with a call of the upmost urgency and privacy: Music Management was looking for a final Dj to play alongside the incredibly talented “NIGHTSHIFT” Band. We were still in the Tampa Bay series and the event was to only take place if we won the Pennant.

There were dueling pianists, jazz bands and another Dj for this event of a lifetime planned by Nicole Simeral of Simeral & Co. Below are snapshots of just some of what was going on this night of Oct 21, World Series Party for the Boston Red Sox!

Enjoy…

My Dj Booth for the evening stacked on top of the main stage where NightShift performed with shadow dancers on each side and a light show for a mini concert.

My Homie, and Co-Dj Hevan, having some fun with a Ted Williams Cut Out. Vintage Black & White Filter to keep it Old School.

Joes Designer jeans, Classic Cedar Boot w high collar, Boss button down, trendy vest and trademark suspenders is how I rolled to the ball game. Yes, that’s the field I’m standing on and the Green Monster in the background. #MakeMoves

Sight line down 1st base straight to home plate. This is gonna be one hell of a ride. Go Sox! #FenwayPark- So I’m starting to think this is a big deal ehh?

Ok so maybe we met some players and maybe one of them let me try on his 2004 World Series Championship Ring? MAYBE!!??

Up close and personal shot of the Dj booth. Boots off to the side for that original look.

Media Everywhere, telecast and VIPs all over the place. Top of the dug-out and peep how the Boston Red Sox looks like a Nike Check/Shwoosh! Yep! #Panoramic

Must do chillin in the Red Sox dug-out No Big Deal… #WorldSeriesBaby

Something about a pole, lots of writing on it, I’ll spare you some of its language but nonetheless, kinda cool.

NightShift rehearsing and, he won’t repeat it, but the lead female vocalist gave Hevan the chills.

This car might belong to that guy who’s name begins w BIG and rhymes w Puppi… #JusSayin

I want to thank again for allowing me to part of such a cool experience!

Inner Playlist of a Dj

The acronym Dj (Disc Jockey) is synonymous with fun, energetic, cool..the list goes on 😉 Most Djs are actually pretty socially awkward individuals who use the manipulation of tracks to speak/entertain the masses. In my case, Djing is a way for me to move the masses while engaging in my own level of enjoyment. Today my thoughts take me through an internal playlist of steps during an event or club night. Every Dj is different, this is just my take on this topic!

First it is important to know that I am crazy nervous each and every time I spin records or emcee an event. To think that as soon as I speak I will have everyone’s undivided attention is a little overwhelming and daunting. There are many ways to get through this but, if you know me at all, then you know that I just DO IT. No time to stress and waste time. It’s time to facilitate, organize and entertain so I do what I’m paid and trusted to do and get out there.

My second thought is who is in the room? Who are my ringers? Ringers are the ones at the party who get the party going for you as soon as you play a top 40 track! Lol. Ringers are good and you need/want them around as they are unpaid interns of entertainment! Ha. Ringers are usually a bridesmaid or relative of the guest of honor or the “class clown” of an organization/company. You don’t have to find the ringer they will find you during cocktail hour and usually ask for the most popular song to be played in the first 10 mins of the event. #Really? Ringers don’t and won’t have to be intoxicated to work either; they are self-sufficient and completely autonomous. Never overlook the Ringers as they can be your guide to many more events and will act as PR experts telling everyone how great you are. Work smarter – not harder.

Now the opposite of the ringers are the Djs sans portfolio! Now these individuals are and can be a nightmare so please, if you have a friend who does this, or better yet, if you are this person: STOP THEM OR STOP YOURSELF! These amazing life forms will usually be sneaking behind the Dj booth, looking over your shoulder, trying to see what your playing and what’s coming up next. If you’re not escorting them out from behind the Dj booth they are in your face asking you to play today’s “hottest music” (as if you didn’t know any better) or worse, they want you to play the bonus track to Elvis’ hidden album on repeat and swear that it will get EVERYONE dancing. Meanwhile, if they did a 180 they would see that the dance-floor is about 90% in full effect at the exact time they want to hear the never ending story theme song! C’Mon people! As if this wasn’t bad enough they are notorious for NOT DANCING and MEAN MUGGING you ALL NIGHT while you PURPOSELY DON’T/WON’T play their song. Sorry I laughed out loud on that one.

These two particular groups are the ones you want to look out for and be mindful of. Aside from them you want to play the best music for your crowd while providing the best amount of interaction. Our job is to inspire and remind our audiences of the fun they can be immersed into by the selection of songs played in particular order.

The goal is to forget what’s going on outside and focus on what’s going on inside. Music is easily the remedy to most mental frustrations and I’m proud and honored to be able to bring together strangers in a night club or share in the celebrations of families at a wedding or honor the Bar or Bat Mitzvah man/woman on their journey to adulthood. Proms are no different; playing hits of the last 10 years while students reminisce on the last four years of their lives and look towards new horizons. Playing that song you forgot about or dancing with that one person who hasn’t danced in years or watching a young one know the words to both a Rihanna song and a Michael Jackson song, seeing ties come off and heels removed (wait wait wait I got a little ahead of myself, heels should always stay on… #KLASSY) but you get the point.

This is what I do and this is the internal playlist of steps Boston’s Kupah James of Klass Universal Entertainment. Should I have the pleasure of entertaining your next party of if I have already had the honor of performing for you in the past, I love what I do and I do what I love. I’m extremely lucky to know and believe this. I plan on providing the Klassiest entertainment this country has ever seen and raising the bar for the next decade of Klassmates. Keep an eye out for Shadi, Bobby, Lindsay, Rachel, Kazz, Hectik, Case, Matty, Evan, J Diaz and more. We are changing the way private parties are played through Klassifying each one of our events and bringing them to the next level!

#MakeMoves! So, let’s hear it: Which are you?! Ringer or “Dj”?

Klass Universal Event Recap: Olivia’s Mitzvah

Spring is almost here and we have begun the 2013 Mitzvah season. This year we started off w a client/friend we have been working with for almost two years!
It was held at the very popular Rumor Boston a local nightclub. Everything was there the sound, lighting and the awesome space. The lovely, talented Ivy Fynn was the event planner and she made sure we had everything we needed.
There were almost 300 in attendance for this bash and Klass was fully staffed with our own Dj Kazz, Shadi, Leanna, Kayla & our newest member Bobby D. Creative Events was also in the building providing temporary tattoos and awesome photo booth novelties. We’ve been integrating more and more novelty items and they add so much to the experience and seriously, where were these items when I was growing up?!
Everyone had a good time and Olivia (guest of honor) looked so pretty, sisters Carley and Leana were also looking quite marvelous. Mom and Dad were ready to let loose and just wanted to make sure everyone danced the night away. To top the night off we even had one of our Djs make a customized mix for everyone at the party. So much fun was had and we are glad that everyone was happy! It really is a success when we can have just as much fun as everyone in attendance!
Below is the letter we received from the planner and we could not be more appreciative of her and the opportunities she gives us!
Any questions about Klass Universal events – please ask! And, as always, subscribe, share and comment. Until Next Time!

Reliving Memorial Day Weekend

How’s everyone’s weekend going?! Rainy? :(  All of this rain got me thinking about how amazing last weekend was and I figured I’d focus on the sunshine and share my Memorial Day weekend!

My weekend started on Friday night at the latest hotspot Emerald (more on that this week!) and then I spun at Red Lulu; amazing as always! Saturday started like every other with a great time at Chocolate Bar. The Chocolate Bar is a really unique and fun way to spend a Saturday in the heart of Boston. Hosted in Café Fleuri at the Langham Hotel in the Boston’s financial district with yours truly bringing the energy! You only have a few more weeks left before it’s gone for the summer, so make sure you check it out and let me know what you think J I finished the night at Governor’s Academy for their end of the year dance with Shadi while DJ Nixx killed it at Red Lulu- #KlassMovement Seriously though it was a #Klassy weekend of some really exciting and fun events.

Sunday and Monday I had the rare, fun opportunity to enjoy two days in a row with my friends and take advantage of #Boston and the weekends’ perfect weather.

Sunday night I went to Legal’s Harborside for the first time. To sum it up: Amazing views of the city and the water, and Great drinks (Coconut Lemonade is KJ #CoSigned).. BUT, the food wasn’t that good and the service was definitely slow. Afterwards the party was at Cure with my friends and #Klassmates DJ Kazz “MrGetWidIt” and DJ Case in attendance, and DJ Hectik behind the DJ booth.

Memorial Day I had lunch with friends, spent some time poolside and ended the night at the best place to be every Monday night: Minibar. DJ Kazz was spinning so you know it was awesome!  But, the best part of Memorial Day were the many, many FB status’ about our nation’s service members.   It was a great way of showing appreciation and the importance of them all and really remembering how fortunate we all are because of them #TrueHeroes.

Please share how you all spent your #MemorialDayWeekend and stay focused on the sunny days ahead!

Join Klass Universal Entertainment’s Network

Klass Universal’s PR team has officially launched a new forum for the latest information on all things #Klassy! You can be a part of our Klass network on Twitter and on our new Facebook page These forums are going to be the sounding block for the latest information and updates on gigs, events, industry news and of course sharing pictures, stories and feedback. We hope you all will participate and become a part of our Klass Universal network and share any pictures or stories you have about a Klass gig or event! It will also be a way for all of you to ask any questions and directly interact with the Klass team.

The Klass network includes all of you! It’s the connections between followers, clients, the #Klassmates and everyone who hasn’t yet had the Klass Experience. Klass Universal wouldn’t be here today without networking. Networking is the way of the world today personally and professionally. It’s about meeting people, communicating and delivering. Some of the previous posts discuss how to communicate and spread positivity. That was meant to share with all of you how this business came to be, how my life has been led and how to find your own success; whether personally or professionally.

Networking can create an opportunity for you to have a conversation with one person who then opens the door to another opportunity, where you meet someone at an event who opens the door to another conversation and on and on and on. It’s important that every conversation and every experience is a positive one and left on a positive and respectful note because you never know when one meeting or one interaction will affect you in the future.

The process allows you to create your own success and lead a lifestyle where every interaction you have is a positive one. You’ll be a happier person and live a happier life, so that better things come your way. It’s not that complicated! Networking is powerful and we would like to extend our network to all of you!

As always I’d love to hear any questions or comments and let’s energize the movement! Start following and posting with #KlassUniversalEntertainment today!

Behind the Scenes with Klass Universal Entertainment

Sup Party People?! Klass is about to enter into its busy season and I thought I would share how some of the process works from an initial inquiry to a satisfied client/new friend. Hope you enjoy a little ‘behind the scenes’ with Kupah!

First, a gig will come in from EVERYwhere and I mean EVERYWHERE: Facebook messages, e-mails, phone calls, texts or third party friends. Gigs will also frequently come from clients providing leads or from actual gigs where we pass along business cards and mix CDs (and of course if we are dj’ing at the time then our services have spoken for themselves.) As if that isn’t enough, we also get inquiries through our website as well!

Where ever the lead comes from it is then sent directly to the office for a “first look”. “First look” is where our Dj/Talent manager, office sales team and I discuss what the client/friend is looking for, based on the initial information provided. It’s good to have this take place before speaking to the client because if they are pretty straight forward with what they are looking for, our office can move forward with personnel, creative and proposal portion of the process. : )

The Dj/Talent Manager is in charge of reaching out to one of our 15 entertainers for availability and basic details of the event proposed. While this is happening our office is working on other contracts and client needs. Once we have personnel, our office then begins the “Creative Process”…

The Creative Process can take awhile as there can be negotiations and multiple conversations regarding what exactly is needed for the event once the Dj/Emcee has been announced. We provide novelty items like Pop-a-Shot, Wii Stations, Photo booths and even more lux level items like high end lounge decor or music-video style videography! Tell me about it Ha! Alas we have figured out the perfect package for our client and their party! We then can send over a proposed contract for their review.

Depending on how effective the Creative Process goes the proposal process can be quick and #EZ.

Once contracted it gets sent over to our Client Liaison who will then contact the party 60 days or so prior to their event and begin the Moments Process. Here we work alongside each one of our clients to ensure we capture the vision they have for the party. This is usually through emails and a few calls between our office and the client. Information is gathered and organized during this process and then sent to each of the entertainers 14 days or so before the event. Dj’s then begin looking for songs requested and motivators make sure they know songs as well, as they may have dances associated with them. Emcee’s will familiarize themselves with names and special guests from out of town or relatives of the guest of honor. Sometimes there are is a site visit between Kupah and the client to arrange placement of up lighting or furniture etc.

Then Ladies and Gentlemen… It’s time to get Klassy We arrive to each event 90 minutes before the event time and set up. We quickly go over information as a team and then #MakeMoves and #GetWidIt providing top of the line Entertainment for our clients/friends…. the rest is History…

Below are some testimonials of just this year alone. Hope you enjoyed my little tour of Klass Entertainment, behind the scenes.

Tour of Boston: Where were you for St. Patrick’s Day?!

St. Patrick’s Day is definitely one of the most heavily celebrated events in Boston. Could it be Southie, the Boston Celtics, Movie “The Town,”  “The Departed,” and their insane embellishment of our accents? (I digress). It seems like every year it’s all anyone is talking about and I’m constantly being asked where I’m going to be and if I celebrate.  Truth is, it’s just like any other weekend for me & #Klass. Meaning: fun, exciting and filled with music and dancing. In other words, worked a few gigs!

This year St. Patty’s Day was on a Sat, which means I was spinning at Chocolate Bar, then I made a special appearance at Red Lulu in Salem, Ma. I love the Chocolate Bar even though I don’t eat much of the chocolate. The Langham Boston Hotel is a dope spot. Right in the heart of the Financial District, the hotel is home to one of my favorite spots; BOND and Cafe Fleuri. Cafe Fleuri has the most amazing, over the top brunch w/live Jazz (perfect for the the next morning). Seriously check that out on Sundays, and Chocolate Bar on Saturdays is a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Who isn’t obsessed with Chocolate?!

I won’t even begin to describe how much of an adrenaline rush I had after spinning for Red Lulu on Saturday night. I don’t get behind the DJ booth too much for 2 reasons: 1) Dj Kazz and the rest of the #Klass Dj’s are far better than I, 2) It’s incredibly difficult to stay back there while everyone else is dancin’ it up. Ha! However when I do get back there, It’s a completely different type of fun for me! Red Lulu is a new sexy spot on Lafayette St. Salem, MA. The sister of Lolita in Boston and they both never fail to impress in any regard. I was able to play songs from all kinds of genres and that was easily the best part. From Peter Gabriel, to the Police, to Diddy, Maino, Rihanna, Kings of Leon I mean the list goes on. Crazy Good Time!

Both Lolita of Boston and Lulu of Salem are KJ #CoSigned! Amazing food; I’ve seriously never had anything from there that I didn’t love. Salmon Coco and Shrimp Tacos Please! O,r if you are the healthy type peep their version of the Caesar salad (Try the Croutons) & the drinks are unparalleled. They’re creative and different; every drink is muddled with fresh ingredients/fruit and the menu continues to evolve. Some of my personal favorites are the Bonita, White Lie, Gin Blossom & Diablo margarita. They’re always integrating some new seasonal drinks and menu items soon so check back for any new recommendations!

So how many of you #Bostonians DID go to the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Southie? Any good spots YOU can recommend? Please feel free to respond to this blog and yes I’m serious I want to know what you did!

#Klassroom Tour of Boston

There are many great places in this world and I plan on conquering quite a few in my lifetime. But, Boston is one of the #Klassiest. I am so proud to live here, and by living in Boston I mean living in the general vicinity of Boston HA!

Can we take a moment to appreciate all that this city has to offer?! I know they call America a melting pot, but if one American city could represent that best it would be Boston. Boston has so many different groups and types of people, places, cultural experiences, and HISTORY. It’s a city where you can walk from one neighborhood where you know you’ve got to keep your head down and not look anyone in the eye, to dapping up strangers and asking for directions. You can walk by a girl who’s in a business suit and looks sexy, but totally reserved and conventional in Govt Center and then see her late night breaking it down on the dance floor to Kanye and Jay-Z.

#Bostonians are smart. It’s a haven for education and on the flip side, is so culturally diverse you can make it successfully in pretty much any trade you’re passionate about. #Bostonians are tough. Whether its book or street smart, or both (which most #Bostonians are) they can hold their own in life and know how to survive. I firmly believe once you’re a #Bostonian you can take whatever life throws at you and survive anywhere else.

I’d like to have fun with this so I’m officially starting a Boston anthology of blog posts. Every few posts there will be one about Boston. It will include a Kupah James tour of Boston; my favorite places to hang out, dine, dance, see and shop as well as simply where I’m at or where Klass can be found any given weekend. And then, just some of my humble opinions and thoughts about Boston and #Bostonians of course.

To kick start this tour I’d take you to the Boston Public Library in Copley Square. It’s amazing. I head there in between meetings, I hold meetings there, and absorb all of the knowledge. It’s such a beautiful and peaceful place. It’s motivating to be surrounded by so much information and power (because knowledge is power duh!). Check it out sometime you won’t be disappointed!

Go explore and tell me about YOUR experiences!

Make Moves

Hey Everybody,

So, I’ve been receiving a lot of feedback from the AOL campaign and it’s just been overwhelming (in a good way) and I feel I need to pay it forward. The AOL ad features me as a DJ and motivational speaker and it’s been a springboard for a variety of opportunities. The majority of these conversations have been focused on the motivation, about Klass and what our team does and the example we set. There are no words for how grateful and exciting it is to hear that, however Klass wouldn’t be here and I wouldn’t be here had it not been for people, experiences, and words motivating and inspiring me and us. I’d like to share some of that which has motivated me personally in the hopes that all of you will then be able to be all that you can be, or Make Moves (KJ #cosigned), in your lives to be the motivation and inspiration to someone else who can learn from you and then continue the cycle.

There are a lot of sources of motivation for me which include but are not limited to all of my loved ones, Gandhi, Will Smith, Michael Jordan, movies and music. I believed there is AT LEAST one line in every movie that can serve as a life lesson. Funny or serious, lyrics in a song can provide the words to any situation that leaves you speechless. Put words to things you can only feel. Or, usually in my case, get me MOVING. Those that know me best know I dance my way through the day. I’m ALWAYS moving.

This world holds endless opportunity for success and happiness and love. It starts with each of you, so pay attention, this is #KupahJames101, all day everyday: MAKE MOVES and share some of your motivations and some of your experiences motivating others, I’d love to hear about the impact you all are making on this world!
