Summer 2012 ReKap

I had a great Summer and had a ton of fun – I am more than sad to see it go, but, I’m glad to have the opportunity to look back on it and highlight some of it in a Summer ReKap for you all!

(I know Summer isn’t officially over for about another week and a half BUT after Labor Day passes and Chocolate Bar starts up, it becomes the Fall for me)

HERE WE GO!

Had to go with my Top 3 for these first few (Summer had WAY too many awesome things going on!):

  • -Movie: Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, Prometheus.
  • -Song: Only One by Chris Lake, She Wolf by David Guetta, Don’t you worry Child by Swedish House Mafia
  • -Venue: MiniBar still going strong On Mondays and Emerald is Growing Quickly! One Memorable Royale Night with Cito and Behrang (Miss those Guys)
  • -Creative Talent: Somebody that i used to know (Cover) By Walk off the Earth STILL AMAZING
  • -New Grown & Sexy Spot: Emerald Lounge (see my review in this post,) The Seaport has been amazing for the Summer*
  • -New Equipment: New Rayn Mixer “62” Any questions?! Haha
  • -New Experience: Started riding a Motorcycle; dropped the first day and been riding ever since. Indescribable!
  • Funniest Moment: Oh man, in my life there are so many…
  • Best Moment: Fire at a Friends house talking and reminiscing until Sunrise. That’s a good life!
  • New Thing I Learned: How to buy a Condo and How to Ride a Crouch Rocket!
  • New Thing I Got Into or, I am Interested in: Reading is growing on me little by little and I may have caught myself watching episodes of Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix… OMG SMH….
  • New Challenge: Developing my organization skills and attempting to grow to the next level in entertainment. Fitness is still a strong passion and strengthening my relationships with friends and family. That last one is especially important because you are a result of who you surround yourself with. Deny till you die but it is what it is.
How was your Summer? What were some of your favorite moments/experiences? Any new spots, movies or songs I should be digging into?!
Until next time……….

How to start being Happy

I talk a lot about happiness and positivity in my life and on this blog; How to identify it, how to keep it, the importance in spreading it, etc. I talk about those things in generalities and sometimes through stories. People have said they agree, they believe that too, they want to strive for happiness and positivity but they don’t always know how or where to begin. It can be hard to start somewhere positive and avoid the patterns of negativity or unhappiness that have been created out of habits. Habits of indifference, dirty looks, judgment, insecurity, laziness; all of the common things people do everyday and aren’t always aware that they’re doing.

How crazy is it that it can be HARD to be HAPPY or to be POSITIVE?! I don’t believe it should be, or that it really is.. I think people need to change their mindset and be proactive. To help get as many people started that truly want to be, I think you can begin with the fundamentals. The fundamentals that we’ve all learned or heard since we were kids: Manners and politeness (which lead to greater kindness.)

Not too long ago simple manners and politeness were standard teachings in households. Of course, this wasn’t/isn’t always the case, but for most, or at the very least it was expected in school. Somewhere down the road between suing each other, racial and cultural differences, rumors, social media bullying we have become so afraid to say anything to anyone. Sometimes when I say, “thank you” people are astonished that the words still exist. Seriously?!

People never seem afraid to point out when someone fails or makes a mistake, but rarely make the effort to say something nice or supportive. I’m confused, and slighted, that while we can tear people down daily, not too many people have the courage to pick people up. Should you quit your job to rush to the aid of a loved one having a bad day? No! Should you try to be a superhero and put your realistic needs and priorities aside? No! But, looking someone in the eye and genuinely saying, “Hey, I like that outfit,” “Nice job today,” “Congratulations on that man, that’s awesome,” “I appreciate you always being such a good friend,” can’t be so difficult!

I spend most of my day smiling and constantly thinking about forward progress. I’ve been on the other side of the tracks, I’ve made choices I don’t want to make again and I have no intentions of going backwards. So, when I meet people, my confidence and energy are obvious, in fact, there are many who feel that my ego and persona are overdeveloped. And that’s ok, but to most who just enjoy me as I am, the way I enjoy them, feel that I must know I’m doing ok, that I’m happy, that I’m confident in who I am and where I am in my life, so why tell me? “He already knows.”

The problem with this is that if everyone goes around thinking this exact same thing, this results in me, or anyone, walking around never hearing nice things from the ones that matter the most. Strangers or acquaintances will say positive comments all of the time, but the feeling in friendships becomes “there’s no need.” That’s unfortunate, not just individually, but collectively. Because we all need motivation, inspiration, support and we also need to hear it and feel it. Telling everyone you love, that you love them everyday could be a lot of work, but personally, I would rather spend significant time of my life making someone else’s better because POSITIVITY is just as potent and CONTAGIOUS as MISERY. The mind is a beautiful thing and we all have more power and abilities than we think.

So, back to the beginning: How to start?

Spend some time each day telling someone something encouraging or positive. Smile more. Say thank you! And, this is a challenge I have for all of you who really want to SEE the effects of this:

Next time you are out to eat and the server brings over your food, he/she will ask, “Can I get you anything else?” If there is something you need, then ask for it, but before they leave, complete your request with, “Can I have a smile?” I guarantee the person will not be able to refrain from smiling, even if it’s a little one, you’ll see it! It costs nothing, but could mean EVERYTHING.

Thank you all for the support and the smiles :)

Tour of Boston: Hotel Indigo- BOKX

It’s that time again! Another new spot to share: This spot is not actually in Boston; it’s in Newton(399 Grove St, Newton, Ctr). But, close enough! I used to grab dinner and drinks here a few years ago from time to time but this Summer I’ve really gone quite a bit, had a gig there on July 4th and thought it’d be a good place to share with all of you!

It’s the Hotel Indigo. They have a restaurant/lounge called Bokx 109 and the Bokx pool. These places are really what I’d like to tell ya about! The food is good and there are a lot of options! It can be a little pricey and the kitchen is closed from 4-5pm (random!?), but the food and drinks are good enough where it’s not really a negative for me. The service is OUTSTANDING and friendly. Shout out to Elliot (fave bartender), Kim (fave server) and Jay (General Manager.) Jay was polite and seemed to work alongside his staff, which I respect. 100% KJ #CoSigned

When you’re outdoors, which I highly recommend doing there, it has a vacation-like atmosphere.   You don’t feel like you’re near Boston or in New England at all. The water is always perfect and refreshing; surrounded by super comfy chairs LOL!

It’s exclusive: not a lot of people know about it (until now!) But, like any place there are some elements that aren’t the best. The area is pretty small and can be tight.. it can be hard to come by chairs and to have enough space if you’re with a lot of friends. There’s an expensive price of admission out there ($20-25).. Personally, I think they should have a package situation that includes admission, chairs and maybe a drink or appetizer. BUT, all of that being said it really is fun and I love being there {as you can see 😉 }

I’d love to hear about any recommendations you have!

Things to be Grateful for during Summer 2012

Sup Peoples, Summer is here and I wanted to help spread some smiles and get everyone excited for it by listing the top things I’m grateful for and/looking forward to in the next few months.

1. The Sun – Hands down the most exciting part of the summer because it leads the way and opens the door for the rest of my “thankfuls”

2. Summer Schedules – Friends and friends of friends always seem to have a more flexible schedule leaving more room for fun outdoors or, simply more time with just the homies.

3. The inevitable tan that will come on the day they said it would be “overcast.” I love that when the sun ends up beaming down on your face leaving you with the “I didn’t know it was gonna be this nice out” face. Good luck with that one!

4. Food – Since I’m no stranger to food I always find that I’m interested in different foods during the summer months such as: salads, fruits, juices and other lighter foods. And of course, let’s not forget the cookouts! #YeaBuddy
5. Pools – That’s right I didn’t say water I said pools… I don’t like the ocean. I know I know. The salt kills me and I like to actually swim in water not just float and endlessly avoid waves. If you think that’s bad you won’t even get me to a beach w/o proper beach games such as Frisbee, soccer or my favorite: volleyball! Easily the most fun ever! But, if you think Kupah James is gonna sit still and read a book for three hours in the sun you would be mistaken. I may as well be watching baseball (equally as boring) s/o to Bang #NewHomie.

6. BIKINI’S, BIKINI’S, BIKINI’S, BIKINI’S, BIKINI’S, BIKINI’S! #NuffSaid

7. Frozen Drinks – Not much explanation needed other than, what is better than a Strawberry Daiquiri, Mudslide or a Piña Colada on the steamiest of days or by a pool somewhere!? And speaking of drinking how ‘bout

7a. DAY-DRINKING s/o to my Cuzo #Xavier (King of Day Drinking). You wake up, it’s your day off, you call a friend, it’s their day off too, you’re both hungry and the words “Can I start you off with something to drink”, all of the sudden sounds like having a gun to your head where it would just be wrong not to go with it, and order a freshly made alcoholic beverage. Next thing you know, you’re out of your mind hammered and it’s like 1:30pm….. #Hilarious #LTD… #LOL

8. Patios – There are so many great places with patios that I cannot list them but here are a few of my favorites: The seaport has a bunch of places, Marina Bay as well, and then there’s all of Newbury Street, North End, Back Bay (Liberty Hotel) and my favorite Monday night spot at #MiniBar.  Although if you want to check out the best new spot it would definitely be #Emerald just opened up last week and is Bomb (says Me!)

9. Family/Gatherings – Whether it’s spending time with the family during gatherings or visiting family in other locations, both can be a lot of fun! You can be catching up on activities and joking about past gatherings or sharing inside jokes only your family has (and we all have them.)Want proof? Think of the last time where you had to explain to a guest why everyone laughs hysterically whenever someone says “El Culo Cagao” after anyone blurts out “I got it”….? Exactly. If you just got lost ask a Spanish person.

10. Summer – It’s the Summer list that could go on forever but it shouldn’t be because you would be reading too much and not enjoying your Summer! We only get 3…3.5 months out of the year, so get out there and enjoy any one of these things on the list, make the most of the beautiful weather and enjoy each second because we only get one Summer a year! I hope to see each and every one of you who reads this, and please feel free to add to this list in “Comments”.

Tour of Boston: New Hotspot.. Emerald Lounge in Boston

Hey Everybody! How’s your week going?! I had mentioned in my last blog that I had an amazing new spot to share with you… It’s the new Emerald Lounge that’s opening with the new Revere Hotel in Boston!

I was able to get an inside look Memorial Day weekend.. but it’s official opening is TOMORROW. Now, I myself had some doubts about the name but be sure to ask someone the story behind it because it’s pretty #Klassy .

When asking about the story, you’ll hear about this whirlwind design that crosses the ceiling and goes down to the floor in the bar area that makes for a very innovative visual effect. The layout is groovy with an almost 70s feel. There are LED lights, very colorful with an AMAZING sound system. The sound system is set up to control every angle of the room; which is more accommodating for people. The couches and lounge areas are all open and spread out, it gives off a very comfortable and #Klassy vibe.

The food and drinks were great! I tried the lobster rangoon, cheese and meat board and coconut shrimp (no utensils needed.) They have some interesting twists to classic drinks. They muddle their cocktails with fresh fruit (huge fan of that!)

The service was really good; they’re definitely making an attempt at raising the level of service in Boston. The bartenders were informative and helpful. The staff and service really add to the experience at Emerald Lounge.

I’m interested to see what will happen as a result of the location; the neighborhood is on the edge of an area that has a bad rep but I’m optimistic.

Emerald Lounge is officially KJ #CoSigned. I really have to admit this place has made me excited for Boston and Boston’s nightlife. I had a great experience there and I highly recommend you all check it out and please let me know YOUR thoughts about Emerald Lounge!

Reliving Memorial Day Weekend

How’s everyone’s weekend going?! Rainy? :(  All of this rain got me thinking about how amazing last weekend was and I figured I’d focus on the sunshine and share my Memorial Day weekend!

My weekend started on Friday night at the latest hotspot Emerald (more on that this week!) and then I spun at Red Lulu; amazing as always! Saturday started like every other with a great time at Chocolate Bar. The Chocolate Bar is a really unique and fun way to spend a Saturday in the heart of Boston. Hosted in Café Fleuri at the Langham Hotel in the Boston’s financial district with yours truly bringing the energy! You only have a few more weeks left before it’s gone for the summer, so make sure you check it out and let me know what you think J I finished the night at Governor’s Academy for their end of the year dance with Shadi while DJ Nixx killed it at Red Lulu- #KlassMovement Seriously though it was a #Klassy weekend of some really exciting and fun events.

Sunday and Monday I had the rare, fun opportunity to enjoy two days in a row with my friends and take advantage of #Boston and the weekends’ perfect weather.

Sunday night I went to Legal’s Harborside for the first time. To sum it up: Amazing views of the city and the water, and Great drinks (Coconut Lemonade is KJ #CoSigned).. BUT, the food wasn’t that good and the service was definitely slow. Afterwards the party was at Cure with my friends and #Klassmates DJ Kazz “MrGetWidIt” and DJ Case in attendance, and DJ Hectik behind the DJ booth.

Memorial Day I had lunch with friends, spent some time poolside and ended the night at the best place to be every Monday night: Minibar. DJ Kazz was spinning so you know it was awesome!  But, the best part of Memorial Day were the many, many FB status’ about our nation’s service members.   It was a great way of showing appreciation and the importance of them all and really remembering how fortunate we all are because of them #TrueHeroes.

Please share how you all spent your #MemorialDayWeekend and stay focused on the sunny days ahead!

Spring into New Beginnings

Now that Easter has passed and it’s officially Spring, I wanted to talk about something you should all make a point to try out…. Day Dating!

Day dating is usually cheaper than night dating, but can be more rewarding. Today it can be very difficult meeting someone of a similar nature with common interests and personalities. So if and when you do, a Day date may be the best route. It allows you to see the person and interact, talk, share, listen, laugh and of course ASSESS and Analyze. Trust me, as a Male I analyze with the best of them.

Day dating gives you an opportunity to COMMUNICATE! Get to KNOW the other person, get to ENJOY the other person, and get to RECONNECT with the other person. These are all really important things to achieve and maintain. Relationships aren’t always easy so you should enter them with an honest impression and understanding of each other and then, it’s equally important to keep things fresh and exciting! In other words, keep it #Authentic!

Do an activity that allows the opportunity to talk, discuss, share, eat and LAUGH. Try to ask questions that really allow you to get to know the person and see if there’s a real connection. Be honest with them and with yourself. Then, definitely go for it 😉

………Hold their hand! (What’d you think I meant?) Ha! KJ #CoSigned

If you’re already a couple, go on day dates to keeps things interesting! Don’t maintain a routine. Make a real EFFORT to try something new. To try something you DON’T want to do (you may surprise yourself.) Ask your person about a topic you don’t know about and LEARN FROM them. Tell them something THEY don’t know. Encourage each other. Give yourselves opportunities to grow!

I’d first recommend that you DON’T go to the movies. But, if going to the movies is completely your thing, switch it up. Go to a movie that you’d never see, or let them pick one, and then you pick one. You may find you’ve enjoyed something different, or you can make fun of the experience later and laugh over the idea that you actually watched them. Just talk about it afterwards and stick it between an activity and a meal before or after that allows you to COMMUNICATE!

As always, I would LOVE to hear what you all think and any fun day date ideas you may have?!

#KupahJames Recap from the Past Month

On looking back at the past month I realize how much FUN I’ve had! It can be crazy running a business and it can be exciting and creative and challenging and #motivating and (yes this could be about 10 blogs! So, I digress HA!) But, I’ve really been having a BLAST and trying out a lot of new or different things and looking at life in different and fun ways! SO I thought I’d share some of that and give you all a look into this past month at things you may not normally hear about from me!

In the past month:

My Favorite:
-Movie: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
-Song: Somebody that I used to know by Gotye f/Kimbra
-Creative Talent: “Walking Off the Earth”
-Venue: The New Revere Hotel
-New Grown & Sexy Spot: Minibar on Monday’s “Unplugged”
-New Equipment: Beats by Dre Pro headphones and IPAD 3! Phenomenal
-New EXPERIENCE: HONEY WHISKEY!!! What?! TRUE FAN FOR LIFE

Funniest Moment: A new friend wore my Jordan Concords at Bond on Sat night (They were more comfortable than her heels.)

New Thing I Learned: That my fire is not everyone elses and I’m trying to learn how to deal with that concept. #NotEZ

New Thing I Got Into or, I am Interested in: I’m in interested in a new book I put down months ago but recently picked back up. Emotional Intelligence #YES

New Challenge (We all face ’em!): My Challenge is my gift; that is to assist in spreading the contagion of smiling and laughter to everyone that I come in contact with.

Best Moment: Easy! Having a conversation with a complete stranger recently. Which was also the best part of that night. Expect the UnExpected… 😉

Sidenote from the Past Month: Had the most mature argument with a Close Friend and nobody stormed off or got offended! Can you believe it? Both of us were objective and stayed on task to come to an understanding about our differences of opinion. Both of us listened to the other, both were open minded to other possibilities, and both are even closer now because of it! I think it’s because both of us entered into it with NO EGO.

-TIP for the next time you get in an argument: try to lose the ego and understand that someone you care about is not attacking you, nor are they attempting to insult you by expressing a thought, or a concern. Perhaps w/o the ego one might be able to see the real issue and begin to efficiently solve the problem. #JuSayn

As always, I’d love to hear what new or fun things YOU all have been up to or experienced lately!! #Share

Can I have a smile?

So I was thinkin… (Uh-Oh)

People often say to me things like “You have too much energy and slow down, take a break or even a day off”. I hear this so much it almost becomes annoying. Key word being ALMOST…

Second, immediately following that comment is “Why are you always so happy or Don’t you ever have Bad Days?”.

I just wanted to express my thoughts about those comments. The energy that is inside of me is inexplainable, I have not yet been studied by those who contain the knowledge to tell me why I am an Off the Wall LUNATIC. So please allow this to be my warning, and disclaimer that I cannot help my energy level and no; I will not slow down or stop any time soon. Perhaps the real question you should be asking is why dont you do more with Yooooour life? Maybe that will give you a better answer and end-result.

As far my happiness? Happiness is not a pre-determined feeling that is planned out and has to be controlled by outside influences. Crazy I know huh? Happiness or the state of content is a CHOICE that one makes at the beginning of each day, remaining close to that decision allows that person to ignore drama infested gossip and life ending experiences. I choose this state of mind each and every day when I wake up and carry it with me through out. This allows me to focus on the important things that matter to me as well as those I care about. I absolutely have bad days like when my spiderman pj’s aren’t clean and I have a special somebody coming over. But I don’t let it change my universe or state of mind I just go with it and always tell myself someone has it worse than I do. Or… I just put on My Hulk or Iron Man ones (Depending on my mood)…

Back to the Happy thoughts why don’t you try it, see what happens. The worst that can happen is you smile for one extra second longer than usual… OH THE HORROR…. : P

This Note is not to anyone on my network of friends on Facebook, Twitter or who subscribe to my blog. This was just an outlet for my thoughts. Call it a public Journal… No secrets here. feel free to ignore, respond, or reject my thoughts

This is what I say to people who attempt to anger, upset or hurt me or my energy…

Anger ruins joy, steals the goodness of my mind. Forces my mouth to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, leads to a mind w/o regret. If I overcome anger I will delightfully loved by everyone…
