Top 10 Ways to keep an eX and eX

It’s Valentine’s Day.. You either love it or hate it. You’re either single or not. If you’re single – embrace it. Make Moves with your life, Do You. Spend time with your friends. Party hard.

But, whether you’re single or with someone, this day can bring up some crazy emotions.. People are always talking about how much it sucks to be single, or how great it is, or professing their loves for their significant someone. No one ever talks about the eX-Factor.

On Valentine’s Day you might be tempted to reach out to an eX and rekindle some flame.. or you’ll hear from one. So here’s a different kinda post that might be useful to you:

Top 10 Ways to Keep an Ex an Ex

  1. Delete the Number
  2. Ignore them!!!! Ignore them so much it starts to piss you off when they reach out.
  3. Find someone better
  4. Think about the times you wished you were single
  5. Make Plans w Friends
  6. Watch Good Break Up Movies and/or listen to Break Up Music
  7. Ask your closest most trusted friends to remind you of the reason they are given the Ex Title
  8. Think about the annoying times
  9. Have too much pride to look “crazy” or “desperate”
  10. Start a new hobby, class, go on a trip so you start a new chapter without any association of them

Have you used any of these? Anything missing from this list? Anything SO TRUE on this list? Let me know!

Guest Post: Tis the Season… Of Busy Things

…Or as I more affectionately like to call it.. The Festival of Obligations. Now that sounds bad right?

September comes and I’m super excited for the Fall season – it’s my favorite, hands down. I’m enjoying the weather, the leaves and building anticipation for the holiday season.

Then the calls, texts and emails start coming in. I don’t know the actual statistics.. but, it seems to me that 90% of the population was born in the Fall. Every weekend from October – end of December has birthdays, football parties, holiday parties (Halloween weekend before and weekend after, night before Thanksgiving, Black Friday, weekend off, 3 day Columbus day weekend, Holiday parties every weekend of December..), baptisms, births.

I immediately feel overwhelmed, tired and BUSY! The first weekend of events came and I felt dread looking down the long road to January.. until I showed up and had a ton of fun!

Then the dawning realization came over me.. Yes, it’s a lot of activities. Yes, my weekends are full. But, with awesome, celebratory, fun events with all of my favorite people!

This is an amazing and fulfilling time of year. For all of those weekends I do nothing and feel like I should be “doing something” or looking for an activity to do or meaning to catch up with friends or visit family, I now have all of that handed to me on a platter with no planning required. And, more importantly, I get to share in some incredibly special moments with my closest friends.

So, while you’re running around and heavy sighing when your coworkers ask if you have plans for the weekend, try to focus on the memories you’re building, traditions you’re starting and fulfillment you’re gaining.

I’m going to continue calling it the Festival of Obligations because as bad as it sounds on the one hand, on the other, it sounds pretty darn funny.

And, in case you were wondering, I’m busy this weekend.

Thank you to Kupah for asking me to guest post this week!

—Sami

*Note: I did not coin the term Festival of Obligations – I owe all of the credit to my former boss 😉

World Series Dj

Whether you’re a die-hard or fair-weather fan, many of us cannot ignore the heightened excitement brought on by our Boston Red Sox!

It started with a call of the upmost urgency and privacy: Music Management was looking for a final Dj to play alongside the incredibly talented “NIGHTSHIFT” Band. We were still in the Tampa Bay series and the event was to only take place if we won the Pennant.

There were dueling pianists, jazz bands and another Dj for this event of a lifetime planned by Nicole Simeral of Simeral & Co. Below are snapshots of just some of what was going on this night of Oct 21, World Series Party for the Boston Red Sox!

Enjoy…

My Dj Booth for the evening stacked on top of the main stage where NightShift performed with shadow dancers on each side and a light show for a mini concert.

My Homie, and Co-Dj Hevan, having some fun with a Ted Williams Cut Out. Vintage Black & White Filter to keep it Old School.

Joes Designer jeans, Classic Cedar Boot w high collar, Boss button down, trendy vest and trademark suspenders is how I rolled to the ball game. Yes, that’s the field I’m standing on and the Green Monster in the background. #MakeMoves

Sight line down 1st base straight to home plate. This is gonna be one hell of a ride. Go Sox! #FenwayPark- So I’m starting to think this is a big deal ehh?

Ok so maybe we met some players and maybe one of them let me try on his 2004 World Series Championship Ring? MAYBE!!??

Up close and personal shot of the Dj booth. Boots off to the side for that original look.

Media Everywhere, telecast and VIPs all over the place. Top of the dug-out and peep how the Boston Red Sox looks like a Nike Check/Shwoosh! Yep! #Panoramic

Must do chillin in the Red Sox dug-out No Big Deal… #WorldSeriesBaby

Something about a pole, lots of writing on it, I’ll spare you some of its language but nonetheless, kinda cool.

NightShift rehearsing and, he won’t repeat it, but the lead female vocalist gave Hevan the chills.

This car might belong to that guy who’s name begins w BIG and rhymes w Puppi… #JusSayin

I want to thank again for allowing me to part of such a cool experience!

Inner Playlist of a Dj

The acronym Dj (Disc Jockey) is synonymous with fun, energetic, cool..the list goes on 😉 Most Djs are actually pretty socially awkward individuals who use the manipulation of tracks to speak/entertain the masses. In my case, Djing is a way for me to move the masses while engaging in my own level of enjoyment. Today my thoughts take me through an internal playlist of steps during an event or club night. Every Dj is different, this is just my take on this topic!

First it is important to know that I am crazy nervous each and every time I spin records or emcee an event. To think that as soon as I speak I will have everyone’s undivided attention is a little overwhelming and daunting. There are many ways to get through this but, if you know me at all, then you know that I just DO IT. No time to stress and waste time. It’s time to facilitate, organize and entertain so I do what I’m paid and trusted to do and get out there.

My second thought is who is in the room? Who are my ringers? Ringers are the ones at the party who get the party going for you as soon as you play a top 40 track! Lol. Ringers are good and you need/want them around as they are unpaid interns of entertainment! Ha. Ringers are usually a bridesmaid or relative of the guest of honor or the “class clown” of an organization/company. You don’t have to find the ringer they will find you during cocktail hour and usually ask for the most popular song to be played in the first 10 mins of the event. #Really? Ringers don’t and won’t have to be intoxicated to work either; they are self-sufficient and completely autonomous. Never overlook the Ringers as they can be your guide to many more events and will act as PR experts telling everyone how great you are. Work smarter – not harder.

Now the opposite of the ringers are the Djs sans portfolio! Now these individuals are and can be a nightmare so please, if you have a friend who does this, or better yet, if you are this person: STOP THEM OR STOP YOURSELF! These amazing life forms will usually be sneaking behind the Dj booth, looking over your shoulder, trying to see what your playing and what’s coming up next. If you’re not escorting them out from behind the Dj booth they are in your face asking you to play today’s “hottest music” (as if you didn’t know any better) or worse, they want you to play the bonus track to Elvis’ hidden album on repeat and swear that it will get EVERYONE dancing. Meanwhile, if they did a 180 they would see that the dance-floor is about 90% in full effect at the exact time they want to hear the never ending story theme song! C’Mon people! As if this wasn’t bad enough they are notorious for NOT DANCING and MEAN MUGGING you ALL NIGHT while you PURPOSELY DON’T/WON’T play their song. Sorry I laughed out loud on that one.

These two particular groups are the ones you want to look out for and be mindful of. Aside from them you want to play the best music for your crowd while providing the best amount of interaction. Our job is to inspire and remind our audiences of the fun they can be immersed into by the selection of songs played in particular order.

The goal is to forget what’s going on outside and focus on what’s going on inside. Music is easily the remedy to most mental frustrations and I’m proud and honored to be able to bring together strangers in a night club or share in the celebrations of families at a wedding or honor the Bar or Bat Mitzvah man/woman on their journey to adulthood. Proms are no different; playing hits of the last 10 years while students reminisce on the last four years of their lives and look towards new horizons. Playing that song you forgot about or dancing with that one person who hasn’t danced in years or watching a young one know the words to both a Rihanna song and a Michael Jackson song, seeing ties come off and heels removed (wait wait wait I got a little ahead of myself, heels should always stay on… #KLASSY) but you get the point.

This is what I do and this is the internal playlist of steps Boston’s Kupah James of Klass Universal Entertainment. Should I have the pleasure of entertaining your next party of if I have already had the honor of performing for you in the past, I love what I do and I do what I love. I’m extremely lucky to know and believe this. I plan on providing the Klassiest entertainment this country has ever seen and raising the bar for the next decade of Klassmates. Keep an eye out for Shadi, Bobby, Lindsay, Rachel, Kazz, Hectik, Case, Matty, Evan, J Diaz and more. We are changing the way private parties are played through Klassifying each one of our events and bringing them to the next level!

#MakeMoves! So, let’s hear it: Which are you?! Ringer or “Dj”?

Klass Universal Event Recap: Olivia’s Mitzvah

Spring is almost here and we have begun the 2013 Mitzvah season. This year we started off w a client/friend we have been working with for almost two years!
It was held at the very popular Rumor Boston a local nightclub. Everything was there the sound, lighting and the awesome space. The lovely, talented Ivy Fynn was the event planner and she made sure we had everything we needed.
There were almost 300 in attendance for this bash and Klass was fully staffed with our own Dj Kazz, Shadi, Leanna, Kayla & our newest member Bobby D. Creative Events was also in the building providing temporary tattoos and awesome photo booth novelties. We’ve been integrating more and more novelty items and they add so much to the experience and seriously, where were these items when I was growing up?!
Everyone had a good time and Olivia (guest of honor) looked so pretty, sisters Carley and Leana were also looking quite marvelous. Mom and Dad were ready to let loose and just wanted to make sure everyone danced the night away. To top the night off we even had one of our Djs make a customized mix for everyone at the party. So much fun was had and we are glad that everyone was happy! It really is a success when we can have just as much fun as everyone in attendance!
Below is the letter we received from the planner and we could not be more appreciative of her and the opportunities she gives us!
Any questions about Klass Universal events – please ask! And, as always, subscribe, share and comment. Until Next Time!

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween!

As I’ve mentioned, I’m not huge into the scary movie thing, but I do find myself watching some during the month of October when I happen to be home and can’t figure out what to watch. The Roomies (or the Happy Couple) are always watching them in the living room during October, so sometimes I find myself grabbing one too. Some of those have included:

28 days/weeks later movies

–          I like the second one better than the first (I know I know.. sequel, really?!) BUT, if I’m going to watch a zombie movie, I want it to be a zombie movie. The first one was fine until they get to the base (won’t give any spoilers) and, as a film, I understand the element of the” living trying to survive” aspect and drama etc. But, I just enjoyed the second one being more zombie-centric.

Halloween (remake) movies (I know I know.. remake?! I don’t own the originals)

(maybe all of the judgement from the movies I want to watch is why I don’t watch these.. hmm)

Dusk Til Dawn (Salma Hayek.. nuff said)

Dawn of the Dead (Legit zombie movie for you fans out there!)

What Halloween movies do you ALWAYS watch?

I hope you all had fun! And, as always, were safe (and send me pics of your costumes below, to my FB or Twitter/Instagram @KlassUniversal or @KupahJames!)

Final Note: My thoughts go out to all families that were affected by Sandy this week. It’s important to appreciate what you have; tomorrow is never promised. 2 live is 2 love.

HOLLAween

Hey Everyone, I just realized how complicated it was to leave a comment on my blog! Fixed that, so hopefully you will find it much easier to leave your thoughts, about my thoughts, each week? Also you will notice at the bottom, you can Like the blog through FaceBook, Pinterest and other social media outlets like Twitter. I tried to make it really easy to share with your friends, co-workers etc. So please don’t hesitate to share with anyone and everyone. I appreciate all of your emails, texts, and calls about the quality and messages my blogs have provided. I’m trying to hit 500 subscribers, so again, please share with others!

It’s that time of year! Where people either put on their masks or take them off; Lol. Per usual I wanted to think of something crafty and cool with swag, but, it’s Oct 24th and I have NOTHING. #GRRR. So, last minute trying to think of what to do with what I have!? Any ideas!? I know a group of guys playing mobsters and a few ladies doing the whole naughty cop, nurse, maid thing. Way to keep it original Ladies… LOL

Halloween or as I call it HOLLAween has always been just another day for me, nothing too exciting. I have thrown a bunch of parties where I live or gone to a few in the past, but as far as trouping it up to Salem and all that… No Thanks. HOWEVER, I have found great interest in the interests of others.

What I have found, and find quite interesting, is how many people walk around all year wearing a costume and actually use Halloween as their day to let the real person show. I think that’s pretty cool. Think about it; many of us wear uniforms or have a dress code for work, play, kids’ soccer games and cocktail dinners. There’s even a strict dress code to go clubbing in the city. BUT on Halloween there is NO DRESS CODE. In fact, you’re supposed to do whatever, be whatever and imitate anything you want. That’s pretty dope when you think about it.

Then there is the scary part: Witches, Ghosts, Goblins etc. Ummmm Ok. The last time I was scared was watching Thriller while being babysat by an older cousin. I couldn’t have been older than 6. At the end of the video when he turns and has the crazy cat eyes and starts laughing… What?! OH HELLL NO. I cried until my face hurt! LOL. Since then the scary thing was never my fancy, just doesn’t interest me much but I can appreciate the movie genre.

So let’s try to open this up? What scares you, or what movies are you still afraid of, fears you may have, memories that still give you goose bumps? Ill go first!

To this day whenever I drink Vodka I have nightmares. I don’t mean about demons and exorcisms. I mean like I crash my car and miss an event or my loved one and I have a huge falling out which causes a divide of some sort.

Your turn!

Chocolate Bar is Back for the Fall!

I am very excited to tell you all that Chocolate Bar is back, TOMORROW! The Chocolate Bar is featured at Cafe Fleuri in the Langham Hotel in Boston.

The Chocolate Bar is set up with a variety of stations that offer all different types of chocolate treats, desserts and food. The Langham Hotel describes it as such:

“The decadent Chocolate Bar features stations with varying levels of chocolate intensity and flavors – from white to dark and everything in between. A DJ plays hit music to set a fun, upbeat tone where families indulge in close to 200 pounds of premium chocolate each Saturday. A never-ending supply of cupcakes, truffles, brulees, bread pudding, crepes, whoopee pies and more take center stage while Executive Pastry Chef Jed Hackney creates rotating items with fresh, seasonal ingredients such as September’s lemon madeline with ivoire cremeax and strawberries, and a caramelized white chocolate torte with banana and sesame.

The DJ is yours truly 😉 They also serve chocolate based cocktails that can be included as a part of the package price. I look forward to the Chocolate Bar every year because it is so much fun (and we all know how much I love to have my fun!) Everyone enjoys it, the location is beautiful and you have awesome views of the city. The food options are always changed up a bit, like they mentioned in the excerpt from above, and it never disappoints.

If you have any friends or family visiting, bachelorette parties coming up, etc it’s a great place to bring them. It’s a unique experience and it’s in a great location to show anyone around Boston – and just in case it wasn’t clear.. it’s CHOCOLATE (who doesn’t love that?)

Until the end of next June, I will be there every Saturday from 11a – 3pm and I hope to see as many of you there as possible :)

Also, for something equally enjoyable and delicious, every Sunday at Cafe Fleuri they have their Sunday City Brunch. The best brunch option in Boston (in my humble opinion) while live jazz music is played.

If you’re looking for something to do around Boston during the day or as a visitor or for visitors – Saturday morning/afternoon at the Chocolate Bar and Sunday City Brunch. Then you can always check out Bond at night. Mentioned in this previous post; and your weekend in Boston is complete – word!

Reliving Memorial Day Weekend

How’s everyone’s weekend going?! Rainy? :(  All of this rain got me thinking about how amazing last weekend was and I figured I’d focus on the sunshine and share my Memorial Day weekend!

My weekend started on Friday night at the latest hotspot Emerald (more on that this week!) and then I spun at Red Lulu; amazing as always! Saturday started like every other with a great time at Chocolate Bar. The Chocolate Bar is a really unique and fun way to spend a Saturday in the heart of Boston. Hosted in Café Fleuri at the Langham Hotel in the Boston’s financial district with yours truly bringing the energy! You only have a few more weeks left before it’s gone for the summer, so make sure you check it out and let me know what you think J I finished the night at Governor’s Academy for their end of the year dance with Shadi while DJ Nixx killed it at Red Lulu- #KlassMovement Seriously though it was a #Klassy weekend of some really exciting and fun events.

Sunday and Monday I had the rare, fun opportunity to enjoy two days in a row with my friends and take advantage of #Boston and the weekends’ perfect weather.

Sunday night I went to Legal’s Harborside for the first time. To sum it up: Amazing views of the city and the water, and Great drinks (Coconut Lemonade is KJ #CoSigned).. BUT, the food wasn’t that good and the service was definitely slow. Afterwards the party was at Cure with my friends and #Klassmates DJ Kazz “MrGetWidIt” and DJ Case in attendance, and DJ Hectik behind the DJ booth.

Memorial Day I had lunch with friends, spent some time poolside and ended the night at the best place to be every Monday night: Minibar. DJ Kazz was spinning so you know it was awesome!  But, the best part of Memorial Day were the many, many FB status’ about our nation’s service members.   It was a great way of showing appreciation and the importance of them all and really remembering how fortunate we all are because of them #TrueHeroes.

Please share how you all spent your #MemorialDayWeekend and stay focused on the sunny days ahead!

Join Klass Universal Entertainment’s Network

Klass Universal’s PR team has officially launched a new forum for the latest information on all things #Klassy! You can be a part of our Klass network on Twitter and on our new Facebook page These forums are going to be the sounding block for the latest information and updates on gigs, events, industry news and of course sharing pictures, stories and feedback. We hope you all will participate and become a part of our Klass Universal network and share any pictures or stories you have about a Klass gig or event! It will also be a way for all of you to ask any questions and directly interact with the Klass team.

The Klass network includes all of you! It’s the connections between followers, clients, the #Klassmates and everyone who hasn’t yet had the Klass Experience. Klass Universal wouldn’t be here today without networking. Networking is the way of the world today personally and professionally. It’s about meeting people, communicating and delivering. Some of the previous posts discuss how to communicate and spread positivity. That was meant to share with all of you how this business came to be, how my life has been led and how to find your own success; whether personally or professionally.

Networking can create an opportunity for you to have a conversation with one person who then opens the door to another opportunity, where you meet someone at an event who opens the door to another conversation and on and on and on. It’s important that every conversation and every experience is a positive one and left on a positive and respectful note because you never know when one meeting or one interaction will affect you in the future.

The process allows you to create your own success and lead a lifestyle where every interaction you have is a positive one. You’ll be a happier person and live a happier life, so that better things come your way. It’s not that complicated! Networking is powerful and we would like to extend our network to all of you!

As always I’d love to hear any questions or comments and let’s energize the movement! Start following and posting with #KlassUniversalEntertainment today!
