The Time is Now…

Whats up party people?!

Kupah James here. Its been awhile since I’ve shared some of my thoughts w all you and I hope this message finds you well and in good health. As many of you know I have just returned from an amazing journey. A journey where I made new friends, connections and was also humbled by an experience for which I will take w me for the rest of my life.

This message isn’t about what took place during my time over “There” lol. This message is a message I have been bringing for years and this is just another dose of #MakeMoves. I live laugh and love HARD. I make no apologies for that and NEVER WILL. I have lost friends and made family and relationship sacrifices to establish and maintain a life of happiness and healthiness that I chose. I have also given much of my time to the youth in hopes that they may one (soon) bypass me. I will continue to give and share and promote and talk and snapchat and blog and vlog and laugh and comment and #MakeMoves. lol.

Whatever it is you are not happy with you must begin the process for which to change your stars. There isn’t any other way to do it. Man up, Buck up face yourself and get it done. There isn’t any time to waste on shoulda, coulda, wouldas. One of the most valuable lessons I have learned over the course of my life is the importance of “Time”. The discussion about “time” is for another day however the concept is one we can all relate too. Time and what we do w our time is truly wasted on the youth. So if we know this to be true, what are we waiting for? Large or small you have to make the effort to set goals and then reach them, PERIOD. Setting goals isn’t enough and if you don’t bang that bitch out then you will be left w your head hanging when it’s too late. Time is inevitable but it’s also flexible and can benefit those who put forth the blood sweat and tears to accomplish what other make excuses for.

I leave you w a fist pump and a high five! Hope to see you at the end of your next journey cuz I’m about to embark on my next one. Stay tuned and stay positive always especially in the face of adversity! See you all soon! #MakeMoves

Mindstream…SHE…

So this one is a bit different so I hope it reaches as many people as possible. I blog because if you know me you know I have a lot to say and i’m always buzzing around about something. You know that i don’t complain but I do hold life accountable for its short-comings. lol

Most of my blogs are whatever comes to mind. Meaning sometimes its a conversation i have had with someone or a piece of art I see somewhere, It could be from a quote I read that gets my mind racing.  Inspiration to write can come from anywhere and I truly encourage any of you out there who haven’t tried it to do so. It’s extremely rewarding and for yourself.

This Blog Post is a little different than the norm. I have an interesting mind and it can go pretty far sometimes and every once in awhile I will take just one word and start writing whatever comes to me and I call it “MindStream” there are no boundaries or rules just words coming out (hopefully it makes some sense) but its intended to express an emotion, desire, fear, or even provide clarity to this world we are all living in. I hope you enjoy it and please share it with anyone and everyone. Subscribe as well!

SHE… will be loud in presence and respected in silence, long winded but straight to the point, she will be courageous in her efforts to withstand the tides of mis-guided torpedoes coming from any direction, sent from uneducated minds saturated in the wrong times, she will move to an internal clock and rhythm, she will Stand when others sit and remain productive when others are stationary, she will make points using facts not fiction or undeveloped thoughts plucked from any impulsive emotional highway, she will make mistakes, she will laugh often and cry in happiness, she will sleep safely, live aggressively and love with grand affections, she will care unconditionally and support with the clearest understanding of what needs to be done and has to be done. She will pause a SuperBowl 3rd Down play in the fourth quarter with her beauty and stifle the most educated or pompous men with a unique hybrid thought stream combined of emotion and rationale that is her Yin Yang and not and opposites of the spectrum. She would’ve developed this over a coarse life of twists n turns, commercial breaks and epic events, she breaths the cleanest of intentions and gives utter devotion to the things she loves, she will be cared for, supported and loved by all that is he, She will be His and He will most certainly be Hers and till death they will never part, they will prove that loves extends beyond the half-lived. SHE… is and forever will be my “Woman”.

Just this once…

Just this once you should try harder
Think first
Ask the question
Wait a Minute
Get it done
Move over
Sacrifice
Set a goal
Re-evaluate
Take an interest
Brush it off
Only take “yes” for answer
Hold your head high
Say “thank you”
Call back
Open a door
Smile
Make a wish
Drink a cocktail
Hit the gym
Wear different socks
Watch that movie
MakeMoves
Be Nice
Sit Down
Mind your own business
Not assume
Play your role
Visit a friend
Remember a loved one
Accept the universe

I haven’t written in awhile and wanted to drop a little bug in your ear! Hope you Try some of these and please email me with ideas for blogs and/or other things that I can add to this list?

OutSide Da Box

One of the most important things in a successful life is having a vision.

A vision is something that can be abstract or tangible but is absolutely necessary as the foundation for any forward progress. You may call them goals, which is more commonly connected to the wants and directions of such ideas. I call them visions because that’s what they are in my mind.

All of my goals started as a vision. A moment in my life where I thought of something and then envisioned it becoming a reality and how to make it so. These are my visions and from them I form goals, which are my way of actually making them a reality.

This entry isn’t about what my visions are but more about you having a vision, what they mean to you, what ARE your visions, have you envisioned something in the past and made it so today?

But most importantly are your visions your own or are they the visions of a conformity? That’s where this gets interesting because I challenge each and everyone of you to examine your visions and call out the ones actually yours vs the ones you adopted from the “Box”. The “Box” is anything served up, advised, or promoted from the stiff thinking of the masses. In other words #LAMESAUCE

In this entry I challenge… NO, I dare you to think of a vision or call one from the past back up to the present and re-visit that vision. I ask you to take that vision and re-analyze it, examine it, refine it and then make it so! Or at least try.

Whatever it is or whatever you’re currently doing I just suggest that you think outside the box. Some of the most amazing ideas, inventions and creations came from just that. So if someone else can do it why can’t you?

No, but really – what are your visions, have you envisioned something in the past and made it so today??

Remembering Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month I thought it would be fun and interesting to talk about some famous African American entrepreneurs over the next few weeks.

Paying homage to those who paved the way for those today..

Madam CJ Walker (1867-1919): Founder of the “hair-growing” business. She got her start trying to cure hair loss and turned into a self declared hair culturist creating Madame CJ Walker Manufacturing Company complete with sales and marketing departments. She even opened a college to teach others her craft. Her products were hair treatments and lotions. She inspired the first permanent wave machine and fun fact: Was the first self-made female millionaire in America! Not just first African-American millionaire, but FEMALE millionaire. Yeah, look out Oprah!

Elijah McCoy (1844-1929): Child of former slaves who escaped on the underground railroad, he was issued more than 57 patents in his lifetime. After an apprenticeship he began working as a train fireman and oiler. He create a lubricating system for steam engines to prevent them from overheating without requiring the train to stop. Fun fact: Other manufacturers tried to copy, but, their product was never as good, so people would say, “I want the Real McCoy” which is where the STILL USED statement comes from. Lol Um DOPE! #History

Garrett Morgan (1877-1963): I’m gonna go out on a limb and say this dude is one of the most interesting inventors and entrepreneurs I’ve read about because of the importance and lasting impact of his creations. He created multiple inventions and was a very successful businessman. But, two of his inventions were: the Gas Mask and Traffic Lights. His original gas mask was called a safety hood. He was able to save a number of lives after a tunnel explosion almost killed a number of water works workers. After running into some issues from people who didn’t want to buy from a black man. The US Army used his gas mask during WWI when poisonous gases were heavily used.

After witnessing a bad traffic accident and seeing the need to have a back up or replacement for policemen or traffic workers directing traffic he created the first traffic signal. This was sold to General Electric for $40,000 and was the original model for the traffic lights we use today. WHAT?! … I mean.. WHAT?!

****

Today I wanted to start by showcasing some amazing people we either have never heard of or can easily get lost over time. There are so many amazing African American entrepreneurs and inventors modern day that I want to talk about too – but, special notice needs to be made to these 3 (of many, many others!)

Make $, Spend $

“I want to live my youth not experience my age.”…

That came to me one day while debating with another about dollar bills and what to do with them, how to save it, make it, blah blah blah. I realize the importance of rainy days and/or emergencies. I know that saving money is one key to a financial security as well as ones future. We are told to manage dollars and live on a budget. Not to live beyond our means; the list continues and as we grow older we only hear more sophisticated versions of “Save Money”.

If I would like to retire young enough to enjoy some fruits of my labor then saving money is a necessity.

What if I’m to be a family man? Then my family is a wonderful reason to save. Save Save Save! A lesson they teach early in school and continue to encourage this value as life continues.

What if I wanted to just be a spend thrift and die broke?

What “They” don’t teach is how to do both, enjoy the money we’re earning now and be prepared for the future.

Let’s remember how we came into this world and how we are leaving it. Most likely it will be in a similar fashion: Broke, little to no clothing and hungry. What I mean by this is that you can’t take all that money you save with you after this life and since we haven’t figured out the exact science to say when most of us are going to die, why am I supposed to save ALL THIS MONEY?

I personally don’t want to visit Aruba and/or Hawaii in my 60’s or 70’s when I have an inhaler and a bum knee, you might but, not me. I wanna run on an Aruban beach NOW and possibly with my walker when I’m 90. Lol. I want to wear nice suits that fall on my shoulders perfectly, I would love to see something magical early in life but then be able to revisit it later on in case I realize I wasn’t mature enough to appreciate it the first time. I want to work hard and thus play harder and when my time comes I won’t feel like I was too busy saving my money to enjoy some of the freedoms and luxuries it can provide.

Don’t be fooled.. I do get it!

The average adult, with the aid of medical and technological advancements, can now live longer and may need more money saved to sustain. A soon to be grandmother is expecting her first granchild or an additional family member then I see the need to be watchful of saving. If one parent is serving the country in a military capacity then I understand that. I could go on about why living longer could/would be completely justified in needing to save more.

For me… I want to live long enough to say that I have “lived”. Simple. We have all heard phrases like “live life to the fullest” or “live like there’s no tomorrow” however I do not believe we take that to its full potential. I want to be mindful of doing that.

I live life every single day, take chances, meet new people, welcome good change while learning from poor change. I appreciate the awards and apologize for my shortcomings (well some of them) lol. I live! I push myself and refuse to be stationary by society’s expectations or demands. I set my own. So how does this relate to the title of this blog?

As a child in a single household we survived by the strongest most intuitive bold woman I will ever know: my mother. Welfare, section 8, food stamps all were part of my adolescent stages. While one half of my creation did exactly what was asked/required of her she could not protect me from the horrible humiliation I felt due to our financial situation. No one could have, it was a necessary experience I was to live and learn from. And believe me I learned…

I have successfully completed high school w 4 years perfect attendance, double majored during my undergraduate career, shared 7 years of my life working for the Norfolk County D.A.’s office while building a high end sophisticated entertainment company. Let me assure you I’m just getting started and I plan on going until I can’t go anymore.

Work hard, play hard, live bold, challenge conformity, dare to be different, question authority and believe in your own ability to #MakeMoves

See you all next time!

Live Laugh Love – Looking to Summer 2013

Summer is almost upon us and the warm weather usually brings out the smiles in us Bostonians. For some of us it is time of vacations, tanning, shorter work days and longer weekends, more time with a partner or the family, car washes and cook-outs.

For others it’s not as positive; unemployment is still very high, some individuals did not do the amount of work required to attain necessary certifications to properly move forward, some relationships are ending, homes have been lost and friends have gone different directions. With all of these things going on for many of us I think it is necessary to reflect inward instead of outward. To stop for a minute and attempt to assess your current situation and see it for what it really is, not for what you hope it to be. Then and only then, once you have seen what you have created or what your reality is – do you MakeMOVES and transform your reality into something you can accept or bring to the next level.

When thinking about reflecting on this, I think for me, the best thing about my life is that it is mine to live and do with it how I see fit. And yours is too! However you want to digest that depends on how you want your story to play out in the end. To help you think this through, I want to talk about the phrase, Live, Laugh and Love. Haven’t we all seen that on a card, tattoo, signage in a person’s home or keychain?

I challenge you to do three things:

LIVE a better, happier, substantial life. One in which you do the things you want to do, including sometimes things you don’t want to do. Do things NOW, patience is subjective and situational…Everything worth doing doesn’t have a calendar date but may have an expiration date so do it now and wait later. I really kinda like that last statement… “Do IT now and WAIT later.”

Laugh at yourself all day and every day. You should be the funniest person you have ever met in your life, when someone else laughs at you, laugh with them, watch comedies, remain light hearted and do not allow the weight of the world to eclipse the beauty of Laughter. If you know someone who is funnier than you, then dammit follow that person on twitter or instagram read their blog but whatever you do, LAUGH.

Love EVERYTHING, your enemy, your ex, your boss, gardens and rival sports teams. Love your family, pets, neighbors; even angry people on the road. Love long lines and traffic, dirty one dollar bills, allergies and mythical creatures that visit you in the night to talk about politics….(too much?) ok, let’s bring it back. LOVE everything because in everything is love or the potential for and/or to love. I don’t mean love like in the notebook (you must watch this movie) but love as an appreciation for the wonder that brought us here as a people and what makes this world go round. This earth, and all of us, will not be here forever. Play till the last second and love each success and defeat. Because when the game is over kids, it doesn’t matter what your win and loss percentage is…I promise you that. What matters is that you showed up prepared to play and had to courage to play (in case I lost you Playing means to LOVE).

****************************************************************************************

To simplify the above I received this passage below from a person close to me and it spawned this blog post so I thought I would add it at the bottom for you to enjoy. Take in the message from the above and below and let me know if you think differently? Which side of you do you feed and Why? Are you the best version of yourself? If not then let’s get you there through Living, Laughing and PLAYING (I mean LOVING)

Thanks for reading my blog! Please share it on FB, Twitter, and anywhere else. SUBSCRIBEEEEEE

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life.

“A fight is going on inside me,” he told the young boy, “a terrible fight between two wolves. One is evil, full of anger, sorrow, regret, greed, self-pity and false pride. The other is good, full of joy, peace, love, humility, kindness and faith.”

“This same fight is going on inside of you, grandson…and inside of every other person on this earth.”

The grandson ponders this for a moment and then asks, “Grandfather, which wolf will win?”

The old man smiled and simply said,

“The one you feed.”

Subject for Debate

A friend of mine is reading a book and sent me this passage over the weekend. She thought it would be an interesting conversation topic for me LOL!

****************************************************************

“Our entire society’s based on discontent: people wanting more and more and more, being constantly dissatisfied with their homes, their bodies, their decor, their clothes, everything. Taking it for granted that that’s the whole point of life, never to be satisfied. If you’re perfectly happy with what you’ve got—specially if what you’ve got isn’t even all that spectacular—then you’re dangerous. You’re breaking all the rules, you’re undermining the sacred economy, you’re challenging every assumption that society’s built on………..

Throughout history—even a hundred years ago, even fifty—it was discontent that was considered the threat to society, the defiance of natural law, the danger that had to be exterminated at all costs. Now it’s contentment. What a strange reversal.”

French, Tana (2008-07-17). The Likeness: A Novel (p. 165). Penguin Group. Kindle Edition.

*******************************************************************

I think there are many things to be said on this subject. It’s a great subject for debate and I think it’s a matter of what you do with the choices you make. If you’re happy with what you have and you’re content, but what you have are the things you truly wanted, not just settling for not making an attempt at your dreams, then I think that can be more than enough for someone.

It’s true that society is based on discontent in the more shallow dissatisfactions described above, but also on deeper levels. I believe it comes down to wanting to live and feel your life. Reaching, changing, trying on new ideas, careers and experiences in search for that meaning and feeling of fulfillment. Maybe it’s something that’s never attainable and that’s the journey that your life is, or maybe it is and either some people find it and it just doesn’t look the same as mine would.

I definitely want more. More businesses, more fun, more money, more success, more clients, more travel, more homes, more people to share this with: more. And I make no apologies for that. It gives me fire, it makes me who I am.

The second part, about how this principle has changed throughout history I just find interesting! That’s so true! I don’t even know what to say – it speaks so much for itself. That is history in its finest form, that’s the anthropology and the evolution of humankind. Done and done.

I personally don’t fear contentment; I guess I kind of feel sorry for it #NoFilter. Again, I do think it works, if you find what you really wanted along. If all you really wanted was a happy relationship with a secure home and 2 vacations a year to places you’ve always wanted to see. And, that happens, then I support that. If you look around and tell yourself you can’t do this or that’s not realistic and just accept that defeat, I don’t.

Please share your thoughts and opinions!

Klass Universal Event Recap: Olivia’s Mitzvah

Spring is almost here and we have begun the 2013 Mitzvah season. This year we started off w a client/friend we have been working with for almost two years!
It was held at the very popular Rumor Boston a local nightclub. Everything was there the sound, lighting and the awesome space. The lovely, talented Ivy Fynn was the event planner and she made sure we had everything we needed.
There were almost 300 in attendance for this bash and Klass was fully staffed with our own Dj Kazz, Shadi, Leanna, Kayla & our newest member Bobby D. Creative Events was also in the building providing temporary tattoos and awesome photo booth novelties. We’ve been integrating more and more novelty items and they add so much to the experience and seriously, where were these items when I was growing up?!
Everyone had a good time and Olivia (guest of honor) looked so pretty, sisters Carley and Leana were also looking quite marvelous. Mom and Dad were ready to let loose and just wanted to make sure everyone danced the night away. To top the night off we even had one of our Djs make a customized mix for everyone at the party. So much fun was had and we are glad that everyone was happy! It really is a success when we can have just as much fun as everyone in attendance!
Below is the letter we received from the planner and we could not be more appreciative of her and the opportunities she gives us!
Any questions about Klass Universal events – please ask! And, as always, subscribe, share and comment. Until Next Time!

Fruits of Labor Now Or Later?

MakeMoves everyone!

Like most things I write about this one comes from a conversation I was having with a dear friend whom I respect very much (DD.) We were discussing the wealthy and how many of them spend so much time building empires or their net worth that they neglect the freedoms they have created for themselves.

Allow me to explain. I am now 30 and I am always having conversations with others about how to save, invest & spend. Most people don’t know my entire history so let me share that I didn’t come from private schools, annual family vacations, toys or other luxuries. In fact I remember going food shopping with my mother and we had a little game where I would take my friends to the car when it was time to check out because I was young and embarrassed that we were paying with food stamps. So to avoid the awkwardness we would go start the car and wait there.

Please know that I am now a young entrepreneur who has been fortunate enough to change my situation dramatically from Buick’s Discover Boston to Boston’s Stuff Magazine Sexiest Entrepreneurs, to AOL’s Authentic. I have also been able to create fitness classes and work as a Peer Mentor to teens in the Norfolk County area.

The conflict I have is the ‘how much is too much’ to indulge with what I have built for myself. I currently have a company which supports my life and I’m fully self employed. I have no kids, wife, girlfriend, I don’t do drugs of any kind, zero drama (That’s right, I said it ZERO) yet sometimes I feel as if I shouldn’t be able to go to the movies twice in one week because it costs money?

Let me say this, I understand saving for the future is important and I have a retirement plan already in place. But if I can’t buy iPhone’s and go to the movies or order take out or drive something I like then WHAT IS THE POINT? I don’t want to be 60 and buy a convertible (LameSauce) I want to be 31 and drive a Bentley! Period! I don’t want to be 60 on a beach in Malibu looking at the young couples running around. I want to be the young couple running around being watched by the 60 yr old. Feel Me?

What I’m trying to say to all of you is what ever you like to do that makes you happy DO IT. And then DO IT AGAIN! Then talk about it with friends and DO IT AGAIN. Don’t wait for tomorrow or $100,000 of net worth. The movies are expensive but if you like Movies… Go to the Movies. If you’re a Gamer, GAME ON! You like Vacations? Then VACA! All I’m trying to say is that if you are a hard worker and you are doing what all adults are telling you to do all of the time you will miss what’s right in front of you which is Parks, Walks, Talk, Travels and experiences that don’t need Donald Trump’s Equity to do so either.

Live the life you have while you have the life to live it. Don’t wait until some bodily malfunction limits your comforts at a later time in life when you can enjoy the very same comforts right now.

Let me know what you like to do and what you do if Money wasn’t an object. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siu6JYqOZ0g&sns=em …)
