Summer Memory: Family Gatherings

So I’ll be 30 in a few short months and I got to thinking about how I got here. But rather than the story about struggle and my education, I took a trip down memory lane. I recalled a fond memory of early Summer mornings (4-5am) when my mother woke me and the lil sis up. There wasn’t much packing because mother made us pack the night before : ) After a quick faking of the brushing of teeth (shhhh!) we would grab a light snack and some last minute rechargeable batteries for the Walkman and head towards G-Ma’s house for Roll Call.

Once we arrived at G-Ma’s it was time to meet and greet with the fellow cousins. This interaction usually resulted in the first of many warnings about “turning the car around and going straight home” HA, empty threats. Pffft. After a game of Hide n Seek or Tag in between the cars we are all sat down and read the rules of engagement. Then it’d be time for the road trip.

Destination: Laconia. The most important thing on any of these trips was the Sony walkman and at least 5 compact discs (remember those). Of course you had to have the coolest headphones around which at the time were not wireless and did not have a Beats by Dre slogan anywhere in sight. Car ride was always decent because you got to see different neighborhoods and the air was always so much cleaner the farther north we went.

The arrival to the beach was cool although you were almost ready for a nap after the 90-120min car ride. At that point you’d want to go run off with cousins and friends but that was not going to happen; First you had to set up shop with family. The routine: place blankets and coolers down, set up umbrellas and of course, run back to the car numerous times for things forgotten. 30mins later we were off! Water splashing, playing games of chicken in the water, Frisbee, Football; anything you can think of were all part of the experience. Sun & Fun was all that mattered; didn’t have a care in the world. I miss those days but I also am thankful for the memories that came from them. : )

Looking forward to some fun, sun-filled memories this Summer! Please share any of your Summer memories in the comments section!

Things to be Grateful for during Summer 2012

Sup Peoples, Summer is here and I wanted to help spread some smiles and get everyone excited for it by listing the top things I’m grateful for and/looking forward to in the next few months.

1. The Sun – Hands down the most exciting part of the summer because it leads the way and opens the door for the rest of my “thankfuls”

2. Summer Schedules – Friends and friends of friends always seem to have a more flexible schedule leaving more room for fun outdoors or, simply more time with just the homies.

3. The inevitable tan that will come on the day they said it would be “overcast.” I love that when the sun ends up beaming down on your face leaving you with the “I didn’t know it was gonna be this nice out” face. Good luck with that one!

4. Food – Since I’m no stranger to food I always find that I’m interested in different foods during the summer months such as: salads, fruits, juices and other lighter foods. And of course, let’s not forget the cookouts! #YeaBuddy
5. Pools – That’s right I didn’t say water I said pools… I don’t like the ocean. I know I know. The salt kills me and I like to actually swim in water not just float and endlessly avoid waves. If you think that’s bad you won’t even get me to a beach w/o proper beach games such as Frisbee, soccer or my favorite: volleyball! Easily the most fun ever! But, if you think Kupah James is gonna sit still and read a book for three hours in the sun you would be mistaken. I may as well be watching baseball (equally as boring) s/o to Bang #NewHomie.

6. BIKINI’S, BIKINI’S, BIKINI’S, BIKINI’S, BIKINI’S, BIKINI’S! #NuffSaid

7. Frozen Drinks – Not much explanation needed other than, what is better than a Strawberry Daiquiri, Mudslide or a Piña Colada on the steamiest of days or by a pool somewhere!? And speaking of drinking how ‘bout

7a. DAY-DRINKING s/o to my Cuzo #Xavier (King of Day Drinking). You wake up, it’s your day off, you call a friend, it’s their day off too, you’re both hungry and the words “Can I start you off with something to drink”, all of the sudden sounds like having a gun to your head where it would just be wrong not to go with it, and order a freshly made alcoholic beverage. Next thing you know, you’re out of your mind hammered and it’s like 1:30pm….. #Hilarious #LTD… #LOL

8. Patios – There are so many great places with patios that I cannot list them but here are a few of my favorites: The seaport has a bunch of places, Marina Bay as well, and then there’s all of Newbury Street, North End, Back Bay (Liberty Hotel) and my favorite Monday night spot at #MiniBar.  Although if you want to check out the best new spot it would definitely be #Emerald just opened up last week and is Bomb (says Me!)

9. Family/Gatherings – Whether it’s spending time with the family during gatherings or visiting family in other locations, both can be a lot of fun! You can be catching up on activities and joking about past gatherings or sharing inside jokes only your family has (and we all have them.)Want proof? Think of the last time where you had to explain to a guest why everyone laughs hysterically whenever someone says “El Culo Cagao” after anyone blurts out “I got it”….? Exactly. If you just got lost ask a Spanish person.

10. Summer – It’s the Summer list that could go on forever but it shouldn’t be because you would be reading too much and not enjoying your Summer! We only get 3…3.5 months out of the year, so get out there and enjoy any one of these things on the list, make the most of the beautiful weather and enjoy each second because we only get one Summer a year! I hope to see each and every one of you who reads this, and please feel free to add to this list in “Comments”.

Tour of Boston: New Hotspot.. Emerald Lounge in Boston

Hey Everybody! How’s your week going?! I had mentioned in my last blog that I had an amazing new spot to share with you… It’s the new Emerald Lounge that’s opening with the new Revere Hotel in Boston!

I was able to get an inside look Memorial Day weekend.. but it’s official opening is TOMORROW. Now, I myself had some doubts about the name but be sure to ask someone the story behind it because it’s pretty #Klassy .

When asking about the story, you’ll hear about this whirlwind design that crosses the ceiling and goes down to the floor in the bar area that makes for a very innovative visual effect. The layout is groovy with an almost 70s feel. There are LED lights, very colorful with an AMAZING sound system. The sound system is set up to control every angle of the room; which is more accommodating for people. The couches and lounge areas are all open and spread out, it gives off a very comfortable and #Klassy vibe.

The food and drinks were great! I tried the lobster rangoon, cheese and meat board and coconut shrimp (no utensils needed.) They have some interesting twists to classic drinks. They muddle their cocktails with fresh fruit (huge fan of that!)

The service was really good; they’re definitely making an attempt at raising the level of service in Boston. The bartenders were informative and helpful. The staff and service really add to the experience at Emerald Lounge.

I’m interested to see what will happen as a result of the location; the neighborhood is on the edge of an area that has a bad rep but I’m optimistic.

Emerald Lounge is officially KJ #CoSigned. I really have to admit this place has made me excited for Boston and Boston’s nightlife. I had a great experience there and I highly recommend you all check it out and please let me know YOUR thoughts about Emerald Lounge!

Reliving Memorial Day Weekend

How’s everyone’s weekend going?! Rainy? :(  All of this rain got me thinking about how amazing last weekend was and I figured I’d focus on the sunshine and share my Memorial Day weekend!

My weekend started on Friday night at the latest hotspot Emerald (more on that this week!) and then I spun at Red Lulu; amazing as always! Saturday started like every other with a great time at Chocolate Bar. The Chocolate Bar is a really unique and fun way to spend a Saturday in the heart of Boston. Hosted in Café Fleuri at the Langham Hotel in the Boston’s financial district with yours truly bringing the energy! You only have a few more weeks left before it’s gone for the summer, so make sure you check it out and let me know what you think J I finished the night at Governor’s Academy for their end of the year dance with Shadi while DJ Nixx killed it at Red Lulu- #KlassMovement Seriously though it was a #Klassy weekend of some really exciting and fun events.

Sunday and Monday I had the rare, fun opportunity to enjoy two days in a row with my friends and take advantage of #Boston and the weekends’ perfect weather.

Sunday night I went to Legal’s Harborside for the first time. To sum it up: Amazing views of the city and the water, and Great drinks (Coconut Lemonade is KJ #CoSigned).. BUT, the food wasn’t that good and the service was definitely slow. Afterwards the party was at Cure with my friends and #Klassmates DJ Kazz “MrGetWidIt” and DJ Case in attendance, and DJ Hectik behind the DJ booth.

Memorial Day I had lunch with friends, spent some time poolside and ended the night at the best place to be every Monday night: Minibar. DJ Kazz was spinning so you know it was awesome!  But, the best part of Memorial Day were the many, many FB status’ about our nation’s service members.   It was a great way of showing appreciation and the importance of them all and really remembering how fortunate we all are because of them #TrueHeroes.

Please share how you all spent your #MemorialDayWeekend and stay focused on the sunny days ahead!
